Please! save my corrupted mudbox file!!

#1

Mudbox 2009 say it is just corrupted, but I have finish my sculpting!!! and just want to open it!

Damnnnn…

HELP! (I don’t believe that is the save file problem, I think it is a bug in Mudbox 2009 that it won’t open)

Just I don’t like it, no reasons at all for the corrupted file!

do you have small file size enabled?

Did you push the GPU memory used beyond the ammount of ram in your graphics card?

Have you tried renaming the .bak file that is saved along with your scene file to ‘.mud’ and opening that? I’ve made lerterally hundreds of models since the beta and haven’t once had a corrupted file. The one way that you can get one is if you push the GPU memory beyond what your card contains.

It is just dreadful.

I performed a full save on my finished model, and want to reopen it, and Mudbox just say it is corrupted. (The size of the file is almost 500mb)

Tried to revived the file from the .bak file, didn’t work.

My video card is Nvidia 8600GS, with 512 MB, Computer config is Intel Core Quad, 2GB Ram, Running Windows Vista.

And I experience some bugs too:

Start up cannot load the whole interface.

I work on an obj file with mutiple layers (model exported from Lightwave) the stamp brush works weird, only use part of an “enlarged” image stamp.

Ctrl Smooth (inverted action) drills a hole on a model and then system hang.

Perform the erase tool on the foamy surface with mask still leaves traces, etc.

Sounds driver related, try updating to the lates driver (although some users have had a lot of luck with quadro drivers as well. Also be aware that the service pack vastly broadens the useabe hardware for mudbox and is due out in the new year.

These would indicate to me that your model is very small in size in the mudbox interface. Can you post a screenshot of it’s size next to one of the default meshes? Hopefully this will give you some resolution.

Currently I give up and reworked my model again. Anyway, thanks for your help.

About my graphic driver, I tried both drivers, 171.24 AND 181.00, I still cannot open the corrupted file.

Yes, the files exported from Lightwave is really small in size. I’ve tried to enlarged it 10 or 100 times in Lightwave. But still it is relatively small in Mudbox.

I’ve tried to enlarge the model in Mudbox about 10 times, so the brush scale is appropriate to work on the model. However, I discovered that scaling inside the mudbox caused problem on the stamped brush, that only use part of an “enlarged” image stamp, so I cannot draw fur like strokes. I have to export the model to obj and re-import the obj again.

When rescaling in mudbox always remember to export the base level and reimport again (or use a new scene file) so that the transformations are set. If you don’t mudbox will still treat it as a small sized model.
