I’ve been following along an animation tutorial, and it says to set my playback speed to play every frame, and max playback speed to free; but it plays way too quickly. 5x normal amount, so I either have to set playback to .2 or set speed/max speed to 24fps. Why is it I can’t have normal playback with the settings they use in the video?
Playback speed
Without knowing what software and what exactly you’re trying to achieve in the tutorial, I would say simply to not follow this part.
I’m mostly going under the assumption this is for an animation of some kind (character/rig based) and if that’s the case, most modern 3D software will support a ‘real time’ setting. Which means if you want to play the animation at 24fps, the software (and hardware) will do it’s absolute best to give you just that. Likewise for 30fps etc.
The best way to get an accurate depiction of what your animation will look like is to make a preview render of it.
3Ds MAX - Animation>Make Preview
Maya - Window>Playblast
yes, you want to go real time- the amount of frames you will actually see will differ depending on your graphics card,
playblasts are necessary to view the animation as you go. however if you have a good graphics card… (and something designed for 3d applications, - normally nvidia ‘quadro’) as long as your character isnt too complex you can watch back in real time pretty smoothly and need to playblast less regularly for more detailed checks…
out of interest, what is the tutorial, sounds bit a strange if it tells you to play every frame
