I am working on a cover for a coloring book. The size of the front cover is 10 7/8 x 8 3/8 and the print company needs it in pdf format at 600 dpi. Isn’t there a Lightwave for print plugin or something that changes/convert pixels count into dpi format? Please I need help ASAP I have to get it to the printers by monday Dec 10.
Pixels to dpi format?
Just use a calculator:
10.875 * 600 = 6525
8.375 * 600 = 5025
So you need a resolution of 6,525 pixels by 5,025 pixels. You can get away with minimal AA, as four-color printing has an inherent antialiasing effect.
600 Dpis seems a bit excessive to me, ususally this kind of resolutions are only for the finest print jobs like Photography books, special Catalogues etc, are you sure they cant get a regular 300 Dpis, it will save you some rendering hours for sure.
Ask on how many Lpis (lines per inch) they will Print, if they say 150, then 300 Dpis is the regular, if they say 300 Lpis then the 600 Dpis is what you need to provide.
Dpis are always the double of the printed Lpis, but this means that the paper must also be good quality or else it will soak all the ink, thats why Newspapers are printed on 75 Lpis and we give 150 Dpis images to them
Use Print Assistant plugin in Lightwave or make your page in photoshop physical size and required resolution then go >image size > pixels. Use the pixel dimensions from PS to setup your camera in lightwave. Works for me.
