ping-pong balls to motion

#1

I have access to raw motion capture data taken from a ping-pong ball (like) suit (movements from the outer body) but the motion hasn’t been transferred/translated to bones (or a skeletal structure).

Can MB handle this sort of data? Can I apply it to bones (or even animated with it)?
If not, what software is needed in between?

Many thanks in advance.

I’m not sure what software you have available or if the raw data (.tvd?) is edited or not. I used Vicon’s Workstation and Bodybuilder to edit and clean the data then import to MB as .c3d file onto an actor. What type of data is it?

This type of point cloud can be handled by Motionbuilder Pro. not standard.

you will need to assign an actor object to the points and then map it to a rig.

Thanks, Onikaze.
Is that difficult to do in MB Pro? Time consuming? And once you’ve mapped it to a rig can you easily re-use it for other characters?

Eidalon, unfortunatly, I don’t know what kind of data it is specifically. I’ve just been told that it’s the X,Y,Z coordinates for each “ping pong.”

Not terribly time-consuming… to the best of my knowledge after you assign the actor you can add any character and use your actor input to drive it.
