Photoshop CS6 uses only 1/4th of the RAM

#1

i recently switched to cs6 and noticed a very unusual “not enough ram” error flash up once in awhile. ive got a pricey dell precision m6400 and this is a first time it happened. so ive looked into preferences and saw that instead of 16gb, maximum on the slider was 3255mb. the cs5 could take whole 16gb.

whats wrong with this lame ass upgrade and can this be fixed? are there any patches or such?

I would assume you were using the 64-bit version in CS5. You’re using the 32-bit version of Photoshop now, so it is only capable of using a set amount of memory. Try running the 64-bit version – as I recall they give you both. It should be called “Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)” when you look in your start menu.
