Parenting a joint to a vertex

Hi guys, I’m new to Maya
I need to set a joint at the top of a cylinder. I need the joint to be attach to its top so when I change the height of the cylinder, the joint still be maintained at the top.
I thought maybe I can parent the joint to the cylinder (which works) and then use the “point on poly” constraint to attach the joint to the top of cylinder but Maya gives an error of:
“Warning: Cycle on ‘joint3_pointOnPolyConstraint1.constraintRotateX’ may not evaluate as expected. (Use ‘cycleCheck -e off’ to disable this warning.)”
