On this vue scene she used chinese lanterns.
Anyone know how she made that material that the light is shining through?

More than likely the image was created in another 3D program and imported into vue. Quite simple
as far as I know has the owener of that picture no other 3D programm than vue so she must did it in vue completely.
I don’t wanna know how to model it I just need the settings for the paper material.
I guess it is a normal paper texture and then played a bit with the transparency and then put in a light?
How about asking Drea directly? You can do it here: Facebook Vue Galleries
or on her homepage: Drea Horvath
“Where The Magic Happens” appears to be the same general scene and she used Vue 10 Infinite, so the rendering and lighting is Vue.
Floating Lanters 112 lights
Celebration 178 lights
I think the trick is more in the lighting than in the material of the laterns.
I tried to contact her on deviantart long ago for another question but got no answer… maybe I try on facebook than…
But seems no one knows how she made that…
