Painting vegetation on buildings

#1

Dear friends,

I would like to use photoshop to paint vegetation on few pictures of buildings I took, like rooftops and so on and I was told to ask here as it is full of great experts.

I’m just starting using photoshop and therefore I’m not sure how to approach this issue.

I’m an horticulturist and studying to become garden designer and consultant in the living roofs and living walls field. You can see my blog here: http://vision4ourcities.com/blog

So I’m after some simple techniques as I don’t need to do complex painting but only showcase to clients what can be done with their rooftops. So I’m open to suggestions, like collages or someone said to use textures but no idea what they meant.

I hope I was clear enough, I apologize but english is my 2nd language.

Thank you very much indeed!!!

Antonino

There are many possibilities with Photoshop.

Take a look at these two Corel Painter videos, however. You may find them useful.

For Photoshop, you will need photographs of plants on transparent backgrounds. Thes can be carefully made from real photographs, or they can be rendered in 3D programs and used in Photoshop.

Google ‘plants trees texture maps’ to find resources like this:

Finally…

If you truly want to paint, and you are able to paint what you need with oils, acrylics, watercolor, etc, and you just need advice on how to translate that talent into photoshop, then many people here can offer advice and help there, too.

The basic technique for pushing color around is, for some, like this

Ohhhh that is awesome! Thanks! How do I do that with Photoshop with the brushes? How do I create those kind of brushes like vegetation or stones?

Thanks again! I’m interested how to create plants in 3D programs and import them in photoshop! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the link! But I’m not able tyo paint in real life… :stuck_out_tongue:

You can use Vue’s EcoSytem to paint plants on an object or surface that matches the shape and view of what you have in Photoshop. Render just the generated plants and add them to your PS work.

Look at the ‘Eco-panting in action’ video:

That’s pretty cool. A bit like Maya Paint Effects?

Cool!!! Is Vue hard to learn? I’m already learning SketchUP at the moment! :stuck_out_tongue:

Can please anyone suggest me if it is possible to apply textures with a brush in Photoshop?

I think painter is the program for that. It has the image hoze nozzle thing that can spray a bunch of small full color images, and even shuffle through a variety of them at random.

Photoshop can scatter brush imprints, but I believe the brush imprints are all monochromatic black/gray/white (to begin with) and can be made different shades of a single hue by changing the color of the paint. So it mimics painter, but with single hue/colorized brush stamps, and no shuffled variety from a single brush.

You may be able to get Photoshop to do what you need by changing brushes fairly often to build up variety.

Ohhhh I’ve checked out what you suggested, the brushes in Corel Painter.

Awesome!!! It is what I was after… :stuck_out_tongue:

So, the question now is, are there around plants and trees bushes available to download?

Thank you!!!
