Painter 11 patch not installing on Mac ?

#1

So I got the patch… and it refuses to detect that I already have Painter 11 installed.

I tried to move the application file around (inside its original Painter 11 folder, inside the Applications folder, elsewhere…) - no result. According to the patch, I do not have Painter 11.

Has anyone experienced this ?

Should I even bother upgrading it ?

Yes and yes, but I discovered that I needed to do a full, clean reinstall of Painter 11 first (remember to back up any custom Painter resources in your application/ users folder first, to a different location).

Next, run the patch and relaunch the updated Painter 11 (11.0.1.43) whilst holding down the Shift key.

Yeah… I found confirmation in this Corel support article.

And here I was thinking that requiring this kind of manipulations to install an update was resolved since the 1990’s.

Hi Agiel,

What we have found is that if the installation folder has been manipulated in anyway (including not installing to the Application folder) the update will not update. Can you let me know if you changed the location or folder contents at all. It will help us for future development.
For that reason you would have had to uninstall reinstall Painter.

I guess this would include any custom brush libraries, custom templates or Extra Content resources added to the Painter 11 Application folder, rather than the Painter 11 users folder/ workspace folder?

Hi David,

We are looking into that scenario. So far what we do know is:
if you install Painter somewhere other than the application folder OR change the name of that folder, there will be issues…

I can confirm that I did not change the install folder or rename it.

The only modification I made to the application folder was to add new brushes there instead of the User folder.

I have to do this so that I would not have to lose them (or back them up) during repeated re-install of my user preferences (which is unfortunately necessary when Painter suddenly refuses to start for no reason).

I reinstalled Painter 11 on top of my current application folder and the update was installed right after that without problem.

I often find that Painter does not relaunch after I have been using/ creating custom captured dab variants, and I believe it is related to a Tracker bug.

If you delete the Tracker Settings.xml file from the last User Workspace folder you were using (Default is the default user workspace folder name), you may find that you can relaunch Painter. A new Tracker Setting.xml file will be created automatically, and if it works, your custom user resourses/ other settings will be unaffected.

Default path to the Painter X/11 User workspace folder:

Mac - Users > [User Name] > Library > Application Support > Corel > Painter X/11 > Default [or custom workspace name]

Windows - Documents and Settings > [User Name] > Application Data > Corel > Painter X/11 > Default [or custom workspace name]

Windows Vista - Users > [User Name] > AppData > Roaming > Corel > Painter X/11 > Default [or custom workspace name]

I also use Time Machine to backup automatically to an external drive.

Thanks for the tip !

I will try that next time Painter refuses to start up.
That should beat having to reinstall all personal settings !

Hi,

I keep getting Error 1402 when trying to install the Corel painter 11 trial. I tried the method suggested at the Corel site, but the problem persists. :banghead:

Thanks

Hi ubermensch76,
This one has to do with Admin rights. Are you the Admin for the system? If so can you send me the full error message. I think it may say something about the registry?

Yes I am logged in as Admin.

I have attached the screen shots with this post.

Thanks !
