Paint Skin Weights Tool - Passthrough Option?

#1

Hi,

I have a model to be rigged with a cloth that has two layers of mesh instead of the simple one.
The problem with this is when I ever I paint weights, it only applies to the first layer rather than to both layers. This makes the process hit and miss, and somewhat tedious.
For a simple presentation of the problem, you can see the a video here:

As you can see, whenever I paint weight, it only applies to the first mesh and not the second one.

I was thinking of like a “Apply Weights Backculling”. I haven’t witnessed such option but I could be wrong.

Thank you for your time. Been having trouble with this one for a while now.

you can try copying vertex weights ,
or use another single plane object as proxy to paint weights then transfer those weights to your complex two layers mesh,

You can try separating them into two meshes, skinning one and then using copy skin weights.

Hi Ranjith17 and gfk.

Thank you for the response. I’ll use them as a last resort.
Forgive me for asking still, but is there a direct way to do this rather than a work around (as what you both pointed out)?

The reason why I am asking is that in C4D there is such option. I was hoping there is a Maya equivalent.

Thank you.

You know what. I take that back. The proxy geometry is actually a decent workflow.

Thanks again!
