Ozone 4.0 Cool but a crashfest

#1

The software has a lot of potential but like Vue, it just ends up being a crashfest.

We are running solid work stations and XP64 with 8GB or RAM.

Crash, crash crash.

We have tried to register on the Ozone forum but it doesn’t allow us too.

If someone from Eon would like to contact us, we would really like to see this software work…

Our contact info is on our website.

We’ll just wait…

and its not like they’ve got a verry detailed contact page on their website with severall ways can contact them (adress, email) even a tollfree nmber u can call in the USA and Canada.

BTW, its still in BETA, it wouldnt be a beta if it didnt contain any bugs

Of course it’s a Beta, I realize that.
Your point is valid about the contact info but…

We have never called Auto Desk and we own the software and have the yearly maintenance.

Forums are where problems are solved, pure and simple.
To use the Ozone forum you need to have a registered product, because it’s a beta it is not able to be registered. Ozone 4.0 is not available for sale so we couln’t buy it if we wanted too. You have to admit it defies logic.

Forums give you access to users in every time zone on the planet and are a proven solution provider (just look through the thousands of threads here).

We will try to contact Ozone 4.0 technical support to see if there is a solution.

If you are interested our problems are these:

  1. Adding Ozone to a project crashes Max 2009 64 bit (we rarely use 32 bit).
  2. If we get Ozone to add in OK, we can’t get it to net render (some projects will, most will not), it just sits on the net-render submission page saying it is saving.

We would love to give beta feedback (if there was a place to do it), we are good beta testers and can break anything…

David

EDIT: We just tried to contact their tech support on the site, because Ozone 4.0 is not registered we can NOT get technical support for it. It can’t BE registered.

Here is an update on testing Ozone 4.0

Today alone we have sent in 18 (and counting) CER’s because of crashes with Ozone 4.0

It sure would be nice to have a place to provide detailed information back to E-on.

Our latest battle is trying to reuse an exported (saved) atmosphere.

Everytime we do max crashes…

This beta program could be improved significantly if there was only a place to do it…

That is intereting because I have never had a crash with Ozone at all. What are you trying to do specifically when it crashes?

  • Evan

#6

It crashes when I try to load a previously saved atmosphere file.

It crashes if I open the Atmosphere editor and dont make any changes and close it again.

Sometime it crashes when you try to render a view…

But overall I still like it…

David

EDIT: Sometimes trying to netrender, the file just sits at the saving portion and will not allow it to be submitted. it can be submitted by another computer, just not the one it was origianlly sent from.

I got it to crash 24 times the other day…

Now all I am trying to do is Change the lighting level to a lower value, and it crashes every time.

I have another file that has the same sky settings and it would allow me to change this value.

Ive done all those things just now, except net render, and no problems at all. Do you have a scene file? I could maybe take a look for you and see if I cant pinpoint the problem.

#9

Once I get a file to crash, it is as if it gets corrupted and I cant get it to netrender or even make changes.

Something happens in the file.
I appreciate the offer, but my NDA prevents me from sharing the file.

Right now I am trying to open the file on another computer to see if it will work.

I have had 13 crashes today related to Ozone and Max…

Must be just me

Maybe just make a random scene with some geometry, get it to crash and then send it to me, because I have a hunch it is either your windows install, Max install, or your Ozone install that is corrupt. I cant reproduce your error on my machine, so perhaps one of the files would help.

Anyhow, see if you can get that scene so i can take a look.

I was able to get the same file to open on another identical work station.

I have also uninstalled Ozone and re-installed it.

All other applications seem to run fine…

Good deal. Sorry I couldnt be of more help, but without a scene file there are just so many factors that can play into a crash that it is almost impossible to diagnose and help.
