Overwritecolor on matCap problem

#1

Hey guys,

I've got a canvas layer created with tools that had a matcap white layer assigned with polypaint. Now I'm trying to use the Overwritecolor modifier on my material to change my canvas layer to a flat color(in this case white). so I can bake out maps without color info using lighting/render and grabdoc. I can't seem to get it to work.

I'm making a brick wall texture and my canvas has 2 layers, the bricks and the grout. When I clone each layer and combine the two, then hide the other original layers and try to overwritecolor, only the grout turns white.

Thanks for any help :banghead:

I just ended up painting material on a clone of my layer.

you can use layer>fill
no need to paint

I tried that and it just filled my layer with flat color.

define what you mean by layer?
i thought you where trying to fill the >canvas which = layer
your topic and what your describing is a lot of different things which is hard to understand.

are you trying to fill the canvas or the texture you grabbed from the canvas?
select your material after you grab doc and then tool>texture map >select your Grab doc texture( model must have UV) then select new material then tool>texture map >FILL MAT

Yeah, you’re right, srry bout that.

I was trying to use the overwritecolor slider in my matcap material options to remove all color on a canvas layer composed of 2 merged canvas layers. After using overwritecolor on this merged canvas layer, only part of my canvas layer lost color, which ended up being one of the two merged layers. I'm guessing i had two different materials assigned to my layers before I merged them.

I'm still kind of a Zbrush noob, so once I found out that I could paint materials on my canvas layer, I realized it was a much better approach to solving the problem and generating my textures.

but I’ll try layer>fill next time :wip:
