Output to DVD format (Aspect Ratio problem?)

#1

I am trying to render a footage with 1440x1080 resolution out for a dvd. I have read a tutorial somewhere online and was told that I need to use the following setting in AE.
Preset: NTSC D1
Width: 720
Height: 486
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC(.9)
Frame Rate: 29.96 FPS.

So, I set them in my comp setting. After I put my footage in the comp and scale it to fit the comp, the aspect ratio doesn’t seem right. The image is stretched horizontally. I tried swtiching Pixel Aspect Ratio from Square Pixel to D1/DV NTSC (0.9) for the footage in Interpret Footage setting under Project window. Now the image seems in proportion but there are spaces at the left and right space.

I am sorry. I am new to AE. Any suggestion, advice or opinion is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

All wrong! 16:9 is NTSC Widescreen, 720*480 Pixels, PAR 1.22. And for the squishing: That’s what the pixel aspect ratio correction button is for. You cannot simply at whim re-interpret items just to get seemingly correct display in AE…

Thanks for your reply.
I got those information from this LINK. It mentioned the rendered images need to be scaled to 45% for DVD output if I render my animation to 1440x1080. Now I am confusing. Is that mean I set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to 0.9 in Interpret Footage setting, the aspect ratio will look ok (no stretched image) once I output it to TV? And the Pixel Aspect Ratio correction is for reference only which shows you how it look like on TV screen?
