Orc Vs Hero Animation

#1

Hello,

we are currently producing a short for the german cebit-exibition.
We have to produce a computer-game like fight scenario in two parts, in the first one the hero
looses the fight, in the second one he wins with help of a nice elf-girl.

We used a stone old mel-script called “crowd-maker” for maya to do the crowd-stuff and modo501 for the rest (except post-work) with great help of modomotion to transfer the geometry-cache to modo.

Right now we have to fix some parts in the movie linked here and started to animate the environment (the dark world transforms into a bright, nice one with plants and trees, blue sky)

Please let me know what you think, i´m open for everything

Here´s a link to the clip (music and sfx are only made by me to get an feeling for the final thing and will be redone by a pro musican)

Orc fight-scene, Part One

Hi Andy,

complex piece you’re doing here! I mean minds will for sure compare it with all the warcraft cinematics. So it’s playing on high grounds!

I wonder about the stage of the clip you posted, you mention the work left to be done on the environment, but for my eyes, there’s some flaws in animation and editing.

edit:

  • camera movments are sometimes off.
First shot, should be simplier, either the DOF effect or the pan, but not both with the camera starting after a few frames.
When the crowd charges, you got the same cam effect again.
When the troll runs alone, you cam isn’t showing enough, maybe a closer shot? or better framed. Actually I would make the cam move with the running troll.

Animation: This is where I would change a lot.
The breathing in first shot isn’t very good, better remove it, need something more subtle, with a simplier cam move, this first shot could install tension.
Generally the run cycle of the troll isn’t convicing, more amplitude in the first troll. And for the crowd, they seems to be just walking fast.
The sword swing seems off too. like it’s not hitting anything. And it ends so suddenly.

Of course, if this clip is only with temp animation, forget all the comments above.

I’m curious to see the final piece now :)-

6ril.

Hi Andy, really nice work there.

In addition to Cif’s comments, I would pay attention to the moving holds - After the jump and slash, the guy appears frozen.

Also, the sword and hands does not appear to be rigged right.

Looking forward to see the final shots, its looking promising.

Hi desmondying,

he´s actual frozen, i made the hero´s animation to short and just edited it real quick in post to check how long it should be, but you are right, that should be fixed =)

Oh yeah, the hands … hopefuly i have the time to fix them.

As soon as something new is ready, i´ll post it here.

Thanxx for your comments
