Opening images and loosing alpha channels

#1

Hi all,

I recently moved from an early version of Photoshop to CS4, but when I open images with alpha channels (.iff, .tif, .exr) etc… Photoshop deletes the alpha channel so I get a transparent background.

Is there a way for it to act like it used to? Keep the alpha channel and the full image?

Not really. Photoshop has been getting worse about that issue in each version. From what I’ve heard, there are alternative .exr importers that might import images with alphas without deleting the alpha. I don’t know if there’s one for CS4 right now.

That surprises me. I wonder why they decided to do this because it’s obviously something that’s not hard to fix. Thanks Jeremy.
