Thank you very much. I have not looked at this thread in a few weeks now lol. I did not even finish mine yet.

Good morning everyone!

Davey:

Hehe, just didn’t see my fault before, you’re right of course, checked it with an overlay, it seems to be easier to recognize disproportion in other people’s painting…painting a while on a pic I seem to lose any objectivity…one of the reasons that I’m always happy to have some c&c…
Glenn: Your tip with the softener in painter was great, thank’s:bowdown:
Your work on the satyr looks very good, looking forward to more details now!

Becca: Thank’s for the encouragement, I’ll try to submit it to the gallery, time to finish something:blush: …

Stéph: Thank’s for the hug, but you’re of course excused with your challenge work… and I understand your “unsubtle hint”, just home again since yesterday…the portfolio will come…soon…

 … just kidding!

#384

Hi Rebecca and Everyone
Worked on details of hands and arms also put red in the darkest areas of satyr, his hair, beard, skin, etc.
#2 is just an experiment with light and color that I played around with when I got tired of working on details.

hey everyone i never got to finish my drawing because ive been trying to graduate…but im gonna try and start back up on it…this is what i have so far…nothing speacial…and i might get a wacom tablet for my graduation, and if i do, you can bet im going to try and add color to the picture! oh and i know this is off the topic but if yall want you can check out my demo reel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbSqlGJ2-as the quality sucks and the music is off…but i guess thats the best it can get on the site. later.

metacom - She’s looking good so far! I think your outline is very well done and is captured well. Couple of problem areas I see are her face and her hands, both of which need some more work to bring them more in line with the painting. I can see that you’ve only just started shading and I think this drawing is going to look great once you finish up, if you have time. Nice job of it!

I don’t know too much about demo reels but yours seems very well balanced with lots of different things shown. I think you did a fantastic job on the church, inside and out. Good work. The gun box was great too.

SpiritDreamer - Great stuff as usual. It’s all slowly coming together and looking good. I like how you’ve differentiated the skin tones on all people and without too much complicated little detail painting, you’ve totally brought this piece to light just with shapes and tones. That’s inspiring

Rebecca - Is it almost time for a new OFDW? Please say yes! :bounce:

Glenn,

Beautiful atmosphere! The one thing I’m not as crazy about is the cloth / water element coming from the ground…it seems a bit contrived, and takes away from the nicely hazy atmosphere that you have…and as the most focused object, it becomes the subject, which is confusing since it’s hard at this point to say what it is. Hmm, what, btw, is it?

metacom,

I think you did a nice job on this figure, and I hope you will be working digitally soon! It was nice to see your demo reel, but you don’t plan to present it from YouTube, I hope? Looking forward to your participation in future OFDWs!

Amerasu,

Thanks for all the great comments! Yep, a new OFDW opens late Sunday, early Monday. I think I’ll find a nice Caravaggio or two as well as throw in some Hong Ly reference for good measure and variety. Hope to see everyone here back for OFDW 015! :bounce:

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

#388

Amerasu…THANKS…

Rebecca…not sure that I understand what you just said…should I soften the cloth,…get rid of it…is the whole cloth distracting, or just the bottom part by the waters edge. Do I need to render it more, or less …not sure…
IT’S the brightest part in the original painting…meant to bring the focus to the main figures
face…I think…when you get some time, let me know in more detail about what you just said,
and I will fix it if I can…

Hi Glenn,

It’s totally just my personal opinion, feel free to just ignore me.  I think the cloth is distracting and looks really distinct in style from the rest of the really softly atmospheric picture you’ve constructed…and I can’t tell if it’s cloth, or water that has a mind of it’s own, so it’s a little bit confusing.

But, of course it’s totally up to you…to me it just stands out as distinct from the rest of the picture.

Cheers,

LOL!!..Rebecca…

MRS SPIRIT DREAMER told me the exact same thing a couple of days ago, that you just told me. Of course I ignored her…being stuborn as I AM, and of course knowing more about ART
than her…LOL!! …and again of course being the fool that I am at times, I LEFT IT THE WAY IT WAS. But as any fool knows, when TWO WOMEN tell you that your wrong…it is time to LISTEN.:scream:
I just softened it up…looks like it belongs now…much better…I THINK …LOL!!
Will post it tonight, to see if it passes the test…LOL!!

PS…Mrs Spirit Dreamer… My better half… will be working on that CG net working thing this weekend…THANKS AGAIN…Rebecca…

#392

Rebecca, could you tell me how I find out about OFDW 015 starting? I wouldn’t want to miss out:).

#393

Heya Maladie,

Look for OFDW 015 late this Sunday / early Monday. I usually try to post the new OFDW around midnight Sunday (my time, US EST). But that’s an approximation, so I like to give a bit of leeway. Even mods have lives.

Generally, I announce the latest OFDW on the CGSociety Forum, the General Discussion Forum, the Art Theories and Techniques Forum, and the WIP 2D Forum ~ plus you’ll see it when you visit the Anatomy Forum ~ so I’d say it would be pretty hard to miss.

Looking forward to your participation here!

Cheers,

Hi Rebecca and Everyone
Working on cloth and the area between satyr and the two nymphs who are making arm contact with him. Made cloth softer to go with the rest of the picture more and re-shaped it to go around the leg of far nymph, exposing her leg in the process.
Still a lot of work in that center area of figures to do.
Plus the foreground etc.
Learning a whole lot on the painting as I go. And thanks alot Rebecca for pointing that cloth out to me.

Glenn

Congratulations, metacom!

You ought to look into creating your own CGPortfolio:

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?threadid=331181

As a CGTalk member, you can upload 5 images to what amounts to your own webpage, with your own URL. For example, here is my CGPortfolio:

(I’m a CGSociety member, so I can upload more than 5 images). But the features for a free CGTalk member are still really cool! This is one of the biggest things CGTalk has done in a while, and I would encourage everyone to take advantage…it’s much easier than creating your own webpage.

The one downside of using CGP as your only webpage is that a potential employer gets to see all of your competition. However, bear in mind that people are posting stuff from all over the world, so you’re not likely to be in hot competition from someone in Canada if you are living in Peru, for example. So it’s definitely something to look into.

Down the line they also plan to have animation hosting, so that’s further incentive to look into it.

/CGP plug.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

thanks alot rebekkah, seems like a good place to start, i can put alot of stuff on that. thanks for leading me in a good direction.

#398

Hi Rebecca and everyone
Worked on refining hands and center area of figures.
I put a smile on the nymph…not sure if I am going to keep it or not…
Need some opinions on the smile…I have about 20 different versions of her face…after twelve hours on this today, I am going a little blind. Help! :scream:

[left]I can’t wait to see the work everyone does for OFDW 015, and I hope to see everyone there! :bounce:

Please note that while OFDW 015 has started, folks are still free to post here on OFDW 014 until such time as they have completed their paintings. However, I encourage people to move on quickly to the next OFDW, as it is much more fun to work within the group.

Hi Rebecca and Everyone

About had enough of this one for awhile.
Ended up with 10 decent versions all different in color lighting and expression.
Liked this one the best at the moment so thought I would post it.

Also tried out Zbrush for the very first time this morning.
Posted my very first Zbrush work, a demon’s head, on my personal thread in case anyone is interested.

Take Care
Glenn
