Open Figure Drawing Workshop - William Bouguereau Master Copy - with Rebeccak 014

#361

LOL Sabie, I assure you a new OFDW will start on Monday.

BTW, what do you guys feel up for? Another master copy, maybe a Caravaggio? Or mix photo reference with Master Copy so folks have a choice?

Up to you guys.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

man i’ve had very very little time to work on this lately. using the mouse takes way longer than it should and makes the flow very unnatural, argh. i’m just gonna try and work as much on the satyr as possible since there isn’t much time left. done so many wrong things (ie the picture i’m posting is the 100% view…) but i’m definitely am learning alot. i think i actually should learn how to swim in the shallow end first and maybe do some apples or something instead of people, but anyways here is the latest update.

One day while walking in the Underworld, this incubus came upon some unsuspecting women bathing in a lake of fire. Being a male demon praying on love deprived females, he moves in and takes a peek while they play. When all at once the white haired woman, screams out and the females morph into succubi. The dominate white haired femal has a crown with one eye and hearts. She is covered in henna tattos, uniquely covering her stomach, breasts, neck and face. Her name is Lilith, Adam’s first wife, created by God on the same level as Adam. She was outcasted because she thought she was better than the male species and God. Lamia literally has her tail sticking out at us. Lamia is a female demon that hangs around graveyards as a helpless woman. If you yell out at her and she doesn’t answer, she is Lamia because her tongue is like that of a snake. This is why she is fitted with a large tail that is that of a king snake to lure in young males. Hence the rhyme, ā€œred and black, friend of jackā€. Then when you get close, a pack of coral snakes come out of her blonde hair to get you. Hence the rhyme, ā€œred and yellow, KILL a fellowā€. Pushing from behind, is the beautiful woman demon with the head of a goat called Baphomet. Pulling ever so gently is my favorite, Allu. She is the faceless demon with wings of a bat. She is the succubus that waits around a male’s deathbed until they pass to take their soul to the Underworld and become Incubus.

Finished yesterday. No internet to post it, though… Grrrr!

2.10 hours for the shading.
Stabilo Othelo 282 2.5HB pencil and cotton swab on A3 sheet of…er… not the best paper for sketching.
(I don’t what this kind of paper is called in english. Around here we call it Cavalinho - ā€œHorsieā€! :D)

Sonj - … that is what I call my wife (remember her name is Sonja, too)… I like your Le Vague. Great definition. I never heard of a 2.5HB.

Red J - Oh go ahead and jump in head first. That way you either swim or die trying. It looks good anyway. Keep up the pace.

Spirit - I like your dark yellowish one. Ever-flowing.

DaWinky - I like your colors. Reminds me of the Master painters of the era. The only crit I can see is that her head seems a little small for her body. I love your ocean. Its alive.

#368

If you just handle over a couple of extra hours to my day:) Or, convince my boss that painting on my working hours is a good thing, and that the customers can wait… What do you think - good perspectives on that one?

#369

Hi aggie!

Yep, I remember.
Bought it on the subway. They’re pretty good for writing and drawing, surprinsingly
That’s a dangerous bunch of ladies you got there! So, you’re all done then?
On to the next!

Ups! got to go!
(This internet connection will self-destruct in 30 seconds… 29…)
Arrggghh!

Sonj - not done, just tired of it for now. I got alot of other irons in the fire to deal with the background and the leg of the incubus. I went dark for a reason, to mix it up. I want to do more studies of angles and demons is another reason.

Don’t stay gone long, get broadband!

Hi Rebecca and Everyone
Still working on details of light and shadow.
Pushing some things back further into shadows
And bringing some things out further into the light.
Started details in foreground - water, flowers, ground, etc.
Just chipping away. Hardest part over. But the most important part ahead.
The Details.

Morning everyone!

I tried to clean and blur the outlines a little, hope this makes something, thank’s for the tip…

Becca, I would also prefer a ā€œmixed bagā€ for the next OFDW…and I really like Caravaggio’s sleeping cupido…

redjesus, you’re working with the mouse…respect:eek: …the satyr is coming out very nice!

Aggie, you’ve made something very unique of the pic! Thank’s for c&c, you think the head is too small:curious: …I should check the proportions before painting next time…

Glenn, this looks even better now, great mood:thumbsup: …

#373

daWinky - Don’t go off of my judgement, just look at the proportions of mine. Yours still looks better than my levague (early in this thread)

#374

Hi…Sabrina…

Don’t know how you did it, but you did…great job on those edges…
BEAUTIFUL COLOR…like the pinks running throughout the painting, and
the softness you have achieved in the water and the figure…Whole painting
looks perfect to my eyes…Looking forward to seeing your next one…

Aggie,

Nice work! Congrats on finishing your piece! As I mentioned, I think you’re becoming more confident in your figures, which is great to see.

SoniaNotRed,

Really nice, sensitive drawing! Lovely ~ the only thing I would say is that the lower legs look just a bit small / thin. Apart from that, I really like your linework and the way you’ve modeled forms. Great to have your participation!

Glenn,

Coming along nicely! I really like the smokey amber atmosphere to your piece. It might still be nice to render just a few carefully selected areas…keep going!

Sabie,

WOW, really beautiful job!!! I think you did a great job with the edges, without blurring them too much ~ she now feels so much more a part of the scene, and fits in beautifully. Great work!! I definitely hope you submit this to the Gallery! :bounce:

EDIT:
Whoops, michael-olszak, missed seeing your post! Looking forward to your joining in!

Cheers,

Dammit !! I failed my cheering business here !! :banghead:

Awesome progress everyone , and a special hug to Sabie !! Wow awesome painting !!
Just for this kind of picture and of course the Flossy , you definitely should open your CGportfolio … un-subtle hint whistle

cheers ,

#378

Steph,

Surely you are not forgetting your cheering duties!  Totally kidding you, it’s been great to follow your awesome progress in your Challenge Thread…go go Snelf! :scream:

Chears!

aggie93 - Oh! Go ā€œrest your eyesā€, then.
I’m afraid not even Xtrabroadband would save me! I’m sure it’s something in Windows that’s shutting it down. Switching from Explorer to Opera didn’t help either. I suppose I’ll just have to go nag someone down at the Hardware forum. Again… :stuck_out_tongue:

Rebeccak -
Thank you.
Yeah, you’re right! (It looks so more obvious now that it’s posted! :scream: Second time I mess up the legs… doh!)
And here I was talking about the legs of aggie’s poor incubus!
I guess I chipped off a bit too many…

Hi Rebecca and Everyone
Worked on satyr. Gave him fuller beard and aged his face a little. More distiquished looking now I think. LOL Also worked on bottom curve of his upper arm and gave foreground nymph a hand. Put twist folds in piece of cloth. Gave satyr thicker thigh. Still need to do his forearms and hands. Started putting leaves in upper left corner. And cleaned up left hip line of foreground nymph. Just chipping away at details and fine tuning. Will put more detail and clarity in extreme foreground last.
