Wow, Teck, it’s like Bouguereau crossed with “The Scream”
Open Figure Drawing Workshop - William Bouguereau Master Copy - with Rebeccak 014
Actually, more like Sin City.
Thanks aggie!
I gotta say, I really tip my hat to guys who can consistently do pure black and white stuff like this (Frank Miller, for example). It’s bloody tough choosing what goes light and what goes dark! :argh:
Reb - I was in Norway last summer and had my picture made right in front of the “Scream”. A week and half later it was stolen. I may be on Interpol’s most wanted.
Hi Rebecca and Everyone
Still working on my other versions but decided to have a little fun with this one.
Made the Satyr go from a defensive gesture to an offensive gesture.
Made the foreground nymph go from an offensive gesture to a defensive gesture.
Switched around the ‘push and pull’.
Satyr now pulling the nymph into him while she is attempting to push him away.
Kind of like this idea. Makes more sense, knowing the nature of satyrs. LOL
Take care
Glenn
Glenn,
Very cool! I think that your style is really working well with the theme and subject of this master copy…the nymphs almost seem made out of molten lava or hot glass, which is a really interesting effect…looking forward to more updates!
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
THANK YOU …Rebecca…
Trying out some of Burne Hogarths lighting techniques, on the night scene…good chance
to explore and practice…Dynamic Light and Shade…lots of refinements left to do, but
really learning a lot of new things on this one…Thanks for your support, help and advice
on this journy of learning…Rebecca…

Morning to all you vacationer’s of this thread. I guess it almost over. I want to finish this one. I do not know if I will be able to do OFDW 15. By the way Rebecca, what will be our reference for that one. Can I make a suggestion? We have been copying some great works, but maybe we should go back to real photograph poses for our reference. I have noticed in my own work I have resorted back to relying on the original artist’s shadowing techniques and not my own rendering. Just a suggestion!
Here is what I accomplished last night. As you can tell my satyre has turned into the male version of my alteration. He is called incubus. He has a normal human skull with ram horns (reference Grey’ Anatomy book). My succubus behind him holding his head down is called “Baphomet”, I found out through research. I used various antelopes to create her head. Took a while. I scanned this one in with my monochrome scanner. I will be working on my last woman this weekend, when I figure out her story.

Hi…Aggie // Davey…
Like what your comeing up with so far…mixing up the MYTHS pretty good there…
Still think you need to read …Joseph Campbell…THE POWER OF MYTH…Will benifit your
story telling a LOT…and will also broaden your knowlege and view of the WORLD at the
same TIME…KNOW FROM WHERE YOUR STORIES COME, THEN YOU WILL KNOW BETTER
WHERE THEY ARE GOING…
I have been waiting to do a GREAT …Caravaggio light and shadow study on this forum for
a long time now…would like to see that next…time for a vote I THINK…
I think on your drawing, you should go into it with some darker shadows to really give it
that extra punch and drama…keep up the GREAT WORK…you have a good IMAGINATION…![]()

Spirit - Thanks. I will look for that book. I tried to find a book of myths and folklore this weekend, but couldn’t find one that was more of a reference instead of just a story book.
As for the shadows, I will be going back and rendering more on my characters to give more definition. It is still in a working state.
Hi Rebecca and Everyone
Working on my daytime version
Refining landscape and figures.

Glenn
Tiago - Love the light in your painting! ![]()
Amerasu - And the light in yours!
I’m having trouble with my internet but I’ll see if I can still finish mine and post it.
aggie93 - Nope, not folded - A3 sheet on a A4 scanner. I was in a hurry…
Hey, you got a red succubus!
I like the altered characters but I notice that the incubus still has some reminescence of the satyre in his legs - they’re a bit too thin below the calves, the feet a bit small, and the bones seem to far apart on his knee. Nothing some minor mending can’t fix.
cypherx - Oh, that’s cool! Personally I find charcoal messy and hard to control but it looks wonderful when used but someone who actually knows how to do it.
Great work everyone! :applause:
Hi Rebecca and Everyone
Worked on my night version today.
Starting to pick out details with light.
Hair on satyr’s leg, grass, figures…next will do leaves, water, etc.
Just started trying this method to see if it would work.

Glenn
Hi everyone!
Glad to see that I’m not the last one struggling here:) ! Unfortunately I had no time during the last 2 weeks, so my “final” is a little poor, but I don’t wanted to leave this unfinished…A lot of great work in this OFDW:thumbsup: , I really like the variations of styles and media in this one and I hope to see you all in the next OFDW…
Have all a nice day!:wavey:

daWinky She looks amazing! Very nicely done. Nice skintones and waves. The sand looks great too. The only thing that jumps out at me is that your girl seems a bit separated from the background, like she’s been cut out with her edges too sharp. If you soften her edges with a tiny blur she’ll probably sink nicely into the background. I do this all the time too. I work on the figures on one layer and the background on another so they sometimes look a bit separate. Blurring the edges a bit or smudging them usually works well for me. Anyway, great job!
Spirit Dreamer Now that’s a very warm looking painting! I really love those red tones, especially the way they make the shadows seem so deep on the Satyr’s face. Good stuff
aggie93 Love it! Nicely original take on the whole thing ![]()
LoTekK Ha! That’s great! More originality
Now I feel bland by comparison, lol. I love those big, red lips!
OK, I just have to accept the fact that I´m in a period where time for painting is non-existing:( But, I´m lurking around, and follow your progress. And, I´m impressed!
Keep it up, and keep posting!

Sara
Glenn,
Looking really cool! Do you plan to render this any further, or sort of leave it smoky and atmospheric? I can see it going either way.
Sabie,
Great to see you back!
Amazing work on this, you really deserve congratulations!!! This is really beautiful, and I hope you will submit it to the finished Gallery. :arteest:
The one thing I might suggest spending just a bit more time on are the edges around her right thigh and buttock ~ they look just a bit wavery, which could be the compression, but the lines don’t look quite as smooth as elsewhere in the painting. The water in the foreground (the white highlights) look just a little flat and undifferentiated, but that is a minor quibble compared to the great work you have done here. Great work Sabie, and I really hope you’ll participate in the next OFDW as well! :bounce:
Come on, SaraD, we know you can do it! :bounce:
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Amerasu…THANK YOU…
dAWinky…BEAUTIFUL JOB…
…If your using Painter program…nice brush among the
TINTING brushes…called …SOFTENER …great for doing edges…just softens, without
messing up color ect.
Hi …Rebecca…
Trying out something new on the landscape and other areas of painting this morning…
I think that I have finally figured out how to get the effect that I WAS SEEKING.
Rembrant…Caravaggio …combination…:bounce:
Will post it tonight …

Hi Rebecca and Everyone
Working on details of landscape and piece of cloth.
Still refining.
Trying to get a sparkle of light here and there, the way it does at night sometimes.
Almost magical.
Like the red glow in number one, but also like the more subtle skin colors in number two.
Too many versions, but the nice thing about digital is:
I get to keep them all - And learn from each one!

Good Morning!
Thank’s Amerasu, Becca and Glenn for c&c, you’re totally right, the figure (seperate layer) is too outstanding and I had problems with cleaning the outline:shrug: , so thank’s for the tips, I’ll try to fix this…and it’s not for the finished gallery, Becca, I’m waiting until I have something I’m statisfied with:wise: …btw, how about a new OFDW, I already thought there’ll be a new one this week!?
Glenn, you’re interpretations are always fascinating and the lighting in this one is just amazing!
