Sounds good!

Spirit - I am really going for the night one. The Nymphs are kinda ghost like. That is turning out neat.
Rebecca - I am certain that this one may take more than a week. However, I need to fill in the women in the back and everyoneās head. I am not sure I will do a back ground, I normally donāt. But, like you said, threads donāt die.
Here is my lowly update to just bombared this thread with line updates. If your wondering, I covered my flash with a yellow sticky.

[left]Nice work, Aggie!
Wow, they have transparent yellow stickies?
Cheers,
~Rebeccak

Rebec - No, the flash is so bright it reflects off of the graphite in the pencil so I dampen it with paper of some sort. The sticky was handy!

So I sketched it out with vine charcoal, fixed some things, rubbed out some mistakes (the beauty of vine charcoal) and went over the outline with charcoal pencil. I probably wonāt use too much compressed charcoal on this one seeing as how thereās not too many thick dark areas. But will use a lot of my 6b charcoal pencil because thereās a lot of fine details, and I donāt have any larger paper than the one Iām currently working on.
I know Iām not supposed to mix the different types of charcoal, but I do, thatās just how I do things. Charcoal blasphemy, so Iām told. Doing it on an 18x24inch piece of Strathmore drawing paper.
her smudgy face can be rubbed out because its in vine itās just going to be hard getting the details in the way I would like

cypherx,
Very nice beginning! I donāt see the problem with mixing types of charcoalā¦call it a mixed media piece, if you like.
If you choose to work in the same way (charcoal on paper) for the next OFDW, you might want to try toned paper and use a white charcoal pencil for highlights. I have a feeling you might also like nupastels, which come in a range of earth or other colors.
Working with nupastels would give you the ability to work in dry media similar to charcoal yet also work in color.
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Hiā¦Aggie // Daveyā¦
THANKSā¦Trying to get the best from both worldsā¦light and dark.LOL !!
:bounce:
Like the way you got the yellow and green on that one virsionā¦gives it a nice warmthā¦![]()
Hiā¦Rebeccaā¦:wavey:
ā¦and THANK YOUā¦very inspiring paintingā¦donāt know where iām
going, or how iāll get there, but I will have fun along the way.
Hope everything is going great with your workshop classā¦lot of work, donāt know how you
manage it all, but am sure glad that you do. once again Rebeccaā¦THANKS FOR EVERYTHING:thumbsup:

I finally finished! That took just about forever. I know there are some areas I could refine but Iām happy with it (and also tired of it!). I also skipped the tiny background figures because I wanted to be done.
Thanks for previous comments and feedback

Iām not sure how many people are still around to read these comments since the session is almost over but Iāll leave some feedback anyway.
cypherx Sheās looking very good in charcoal! I quite like her face. I understand youāre going to rub it over but I think she looks good right now. Nice work so far.
aggie93 Your pic is a little small so itās hard to see details but I can see youāve got some good work going on. I especially like the muscle definition on the left nymph, I think it looks very solid. I struggled with her myself!
Spirit Dreamer Nice style as always! Your paintings always flow so well and somehow you take a few smudges and work them into viable figures. I like the detail work you did on the male face a few pages back. Good stuff.
tiago Fantastic stuff for such a short time⦠and I thought I was fast! Itās too bad you may not be able to finish this as it could look very good. School comes first though
ericyeo Wow! Thatās one gorgeous study! Iāve always been impressed with your work for the figure sessions and this one is no exception. The skintones are spectacular. Excellent painting
SoniaNotRed A nice start. More definition and tones would be great. Are you coming back to work on this?
Maladie Looking good so far! I think youāve done a great job on the water and sand but could do with more muscle and tone definition on the figure. Her skintones are good but she needs more shading and colours in the shadows and muscle areas to make her really stand out. Nice work
SaraD Her face is looking beautiful so far, as is her skin! I look forward to seeing this one completed.
redjesus I really like your initial sketch. I start that way with paintings too and then fill them in as I go. One things that really struck me with your painting is that you need more variation in skin tone colour. The figure on the right should be significantly lighter than the others. I know youāre still at the beginning anyway so maybe this is to be addressed
Good work so far!
Matellis I love the originality! She rocks
Individuality aside, nice work on the painting - especially the water and sand. Nice attention to detail. It looks almost real.
Gord I canāt say much since youāre at the very beginning but tones are looking good so far
Kwyjibo A good start with the black and white tones so far. Iāll agree with Rebeccaās advice to work on the blending between tones a little more. Have you tried a low opacity brush setting? That might help you blend more evenly.
pocanman I know what you mean by āshould have chosen the other oneā!
Itās a monster painting. Anyway, nice tone work so far. Are you going to finish this painting?
daWinky Wow! Pretty face
Looking great so far and would love to see the rest.
Xillion I really admire the way you paint. I would love to be able to paint so with such a free flow as yours. Nice technique! I hope you finish this one because I think it could be very spectacular. Excellent work!
vnikolov Iām only seeing the arm and hair so far but it looks good!
mindofka Great spin on the painting! Nice work
pushav Wow, big improvement! Iāve always admired your abstract, loose sort of style but youāve really tightened things up with this painting. She looks good!
Zepyhri A good start and I hope you finish! Iāve seen some of your other work and find it quite inspiring so I hope you come back to this one. A nice, quick start anyway
Pinoy McGee Love that torso focus! Nice work.
Iām going to end commenting here⦠thereās so many of you! Next time Iāll start the session on time instead of rushing in at the end so I can be more involved.
Yeah, Rebecca, I would like to eventually play with using white for highlights since Iāve never done that before.
and whoops, I already rubbed the face out, I really felt it didnāt represent her too well before, and hopefully Iāll be able to get it put back in with better results. Otherwise sheāll just have a smudge for a face.
this is my last update for tonight, Iām tired and have work tomorrow. yay

Awww Glenn,
Youāre doing more painting on these boards than I am
~ please keep up the awesome work!!! ![]()
Amerasu,
WOW, I donāt know whether Iām more impressed with your painting or with the fact that you commented on everyoneās painting!
Well, your painting turned out awesome, and I continue to be AMAZED at how quickly you can paint!!! I couldnāt believe it earlier when you said you were going to finish today, but then I forgot who I was thinking of.
His legs are the only things that really stand out to me as being a wee bit unfinished. As for the rest, reallllly beautiful work!!! :bounce:
I really hope youāll submit this to the Finished Gallery ~ great stuff Amerasu, thanks so much for your amazing participation here!!!
cypherx,
Nice work!! I think later on you may want to think about adding emphasis to the apexes of the major curves of the figure for greater emphasis and sense of weight. Really nice progress here!
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Rebecca, thanks for the feedback
Youāre right, those hairy beast legs need a bit more work and Iāll do that before I submit to the finished gallery. I can also see Iām missing a bit of the girly leg behind him. Poor thing, itās a wonder she can walkā¦
ok, now I am really going to bed, she wouldnāt let me sleep without her having a face. Yeah, Rebecca, Iāll see what I can do about giving her more curves as I go
thanks

Hiā¦Amerasuā¦
ā¦
Cypherx // Jennifer ā¦
GREAT JOB on that faceā¦really like the hair alsoā¦like your technique so far, think you
should try out the white highlightā¦might really add volume to the figure.
Keep up the GREAT WORKā¦![]()

Glenn
Thanks Spirit, though I donāt think white charcoal will help much on this one because Iām not using a toned paper. But for the next one I have time to participate in, perhaps Iāll try pastels (though Iāve never used them) on green or brownish paper.
cypherx,
Nice work on this! Do you plan on drawing the waves as welll?
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Figured I would put my cellphone in this shot so you could see the scale Iām working on. This will be my last progress shot before the final, I think I posted enough already blush
Iāve worked in the bg a bit more, and worked on her feet some
edit- Oh yeah, I do plan on doing the waves.

cypherx,
The face looks great! I think bringing the body up to that level without overpowering the viewer will be an interesting challenge. No worries about posting WIPs, thatās what the thread is for.
Cyph - All I can say is beautiful. Love your work!
Update. As you can tell, I did it, jumped in and did it. I went dark with this, probably ruin it but what the hell. I am tired of just copying. I stayed up until 2 AM, couldnāt leave Allu alone.
Overall and Ms. Allu (gave her red hair and highlights)
