Open Figure Drawing Workshop - William Bouguereau Master Copy - with Rebeccak 014

#261

Running late as usual but finally got here!
It’s hard to draw chubby girls after spending a lifetime drawing slender ones. She’s looking all twisted… :scream: starts hacking at girl’s hunchback
About 35 minutes to do this.

Matellis - That is so cool! LOL!

aggie93 - I see your coloring has evolved already quite a bit since your copy of “La Vague”. Good going!

Great painting everyone!

ericyeo: Daaaaayum! That looks gorgeous, man. As said, the skintones are perfect. Awesomeness.

Maladie: Yours is coming along very nicely!

#263

more 2 hours

i’dont like this picture but it’s a good chalange.

#264

Mal - The only thing I can see is that you may want to work on the details of the face a little. Other than that everything is coming along nicely. Purportions and color looks fine. I say keep on trucking.

Tiag - I like! Great work in little time too!

Sonj - by the way, that is what I call my wife, Sonj. Looks like you got it all worked out. Did you fold your paper? :scream:

#265

Hi …Tiago…

I look at your painting, and see warm, even hot tropical jungle…greens…must be Brazil…
I really like it…gives it a whole different feeling, mood. . .maybe … PAUL GAUGUIN…
Maybe some muted reds…purples…browns to go with the greens…might really start it to
vibrateing…just a thought…
Looking forward to seeing your painting evolve…really liking it.

Hey everyone! I am still alive i swear! just been really busy with other things, but tomorrow I think i will start working on this again. Right now my mind is in journey mood.

Everyone is doing a great job , keep it up.

Eric- The painting is amazing , and what i love most is the skin , the wrinkles in the feet and hands , outstanding! and the background oh and her face , oohh and the waves , OK OK i love the whole thing.

cheers to everyone,
p.s- is there a workshop after party?

#267

Party… Where?.. I’m there!:bounce:

#268

Like, drinking virtual beer in cyberspace? Sounds like a plan. Everybody thanks for crits, or rather, praise (?!). I will work on a closeup of the face now and incorporate it when it’s done. Other than that I’ll try to make more detailed brushstrokes everywhere. I wish I could get a luminosity and plasticity like ericyeo…hey, maybe in another few years.

Matt, are you in the journey-challenge? Would love to see more work from you. Keep it up everyone!

#269

I don’t think you have too much to worry about. Learning digital art is a looong, slow progress (I’m still on level 2 myself) and you seem to be picking it up very quickly. Only crit in the above pic is the face and the fact that the areas around the hands are too dark- it looks like a dip in the land. I would give it a lighter hue, like the reflection you have below the feet there.

You’re doing really well and you have tons of potential! In fact, I am quite jealous. Keep going!!

#270

WOW. thanks!

#271

I worked on my Nymphs,… I wish…, last night for about 15 minutes. I need to either wrap this up or put it down. I have got to start studying for a state board exam to get my some-what doctorate. The test is in April, then I can pick it up again.

I am going to be gone to another seminar in central Texas for the next few days. Good luck with everyone.

Maladie: You should be proud of where you gotten so far. It looks great, and you’ve got a good solid grasp on the skintones (yours is a tad pinker than the original, though). Nice values, too. Oh, and lovely job on the water.

The only thing that’s really standing out for me right now is her face - it’s rather small. If you can, size up the face, and then give her that lovely smile she’s got on in the original. Looking forward to an update.

aggie93: What you’ve got there looks really good; nice values, nice shading technique (it looks like you’re hatching?). But, you’re rendering in parts. If I might make a suggestion, try laying down values on the whole before working up the details. It’ll result in a much more coherent final result. But I’d like to see where you take this.

#273

Thanks Lo. There is a reason for the part rendering. It started earlier in this thread, last week. I was going to finish up with the three then and now I decided to add the other two. I am also leaving out the heads and the legs of the satyre because I am debating on changing the characters (Read the earlier post of mine, you’ll understand).

#274

Oops. This is what I get for jumping in with comments this late in the game. Your interpretation definitely intrigues me, and now I’m even more psyched to see where you take this.

#275

vnikolov & Matellis: Thank you
LoTekK: Hi :wavey: ur from Singapore too
Maladie: Practise makes perfect. I didnt know much about skin tone before I join the workshop. u have tons of potential. Believe in urself and u will make it

Another round of refining

Hi…Ericyeo…

Trust your own eye and judgement, …your an excellent draftsman…that eye looked great before…to my eyes anyway…now it is distracting…before her face looked perfect and
BEAUTIFUL…I thought so anyway…just my opinion though.

ericyeo,

WOW, just stunning! I love this piece, I most certainly hope you will be submitting it to the Gallery. I have the tiniest quibble with the bottom edge of her buttocks where there is a tiny bump that looks like it might be smoothed a bit more. Also, that bit of water by her right hand, the light blue area, is a bit more obvious as being ‘painted’ than the rest of the water. But overall, just WOW!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Great work!!!

Cheers,

Hi Ericyeo
Think your painting turned out fantastic. Fabulous. Really admire your painting technique.
No crits at all from me. Love the colors you ended up with. Beautiful silvery glow to your whole painting. I enlarged your painting and the eye looks fine either way to me. I know
you are really getting into color so I thought I would show you a warm version of your
painting. Might come in handy in the future, who knows? Took less than 5 minutes with
the magic of the computer, Painter 9. Applied two tints. A peach color and a gray-gold
color. Then adjusted contrast and brightness. Also smoothed out a couple of edges with a softener brush in tinting section. That is it. Like I said, maybe these simple tricks will
come in handy to you sometime down the road. Just trying to help you with your color
studies.
Take care
Glenn

Spirit Dreamer: Cool technique. I Definitely got to try it.
Hi all, I have posted it to the gallery here is the link http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=327053

Here’s my start. All I’ve done so far is the quick sketch (I used a grid for this one) and preliminary colours.

I might start with a face study this afternoon before attempting to paint everything.
