Thanks for all the hints, I really apppreciate it. Thanks Rebecca.

Kris great study of a study…your colours are great.

mazalo…great movement in your piece, the background on our right looks a little unfinished and detracts away from the portrait for me, but you have captured the feel of the original brilliantly.

Agou…great start will look forward to the development of this.

Digisol…looks amazing so far, especially the shirt.

Hi all! Next day and next hour.

Sol - It does mention no nudity in the terms. I thought that meant porn or actual photos of naked people. I did not know it meant traditional or digital art. I am taking it as a complement. They actually thought my renderings of naked people were detailed enough.

#444

I am finished with “Black”. I got to get on with other things. It is charcoal on heavy stock 19 x 24.

#445

He =) I guess lots of peeps finished theirs already. Unfortunately I’m in the middle of my exams so I can’t find much time for it.

here’s another couple of hour’s progress, though  I’ve made some basic proportion mistakes but I’m enjoying myself too much to go back and correct it, since I’d have to do a LOT of work

#446

Agou, good work overall, maybe you should add some transparency dynamics to the brush.

Kris, Fantastic job, I already like it.

Dim, You have a strong start there, keep it up.

Aggie, good work on the values.

Plaf, amazing job, traditional media is something wornderful.

Here is a little update for mine, critics and comments are welcome as always, thanks to all.

#447

Hi Enrique,

I think the values on the sleeve are just a little bit to high.
That is all I can think of right now…

plaf - hope you keep on working on this one as it’s turning out to be real good. The wall on the left I like especially!

I’ve known the functions of pgotoshop for years now, but never really painted with the software. I have also recently been studying the advanced features to improve images. So now I think I am ready to try and learn to paint in the medium. For those who know my work should know I have some experience with traditional Oils, but for this I will be working in photoshop.

I think this will force me to create some new custom brushes to try and to try and adopt a personal style.

One question, does it have to be exactly like the master piece? Or can i adopt my own brush work, but keep to the colour scheme and positioning of the master copy. I will also do my initial sketch traditionally as I am most used to sketching this way. Maybe in the future when I create a custom brush that closely resembles realsketching, then i might convert to that way, but for now I will stick to pencil/pen/ink.

I don’t have an image just yet. Just wanting to say that I will be starting one and a little introduction. I seem to like doing this as its better than bashing through the workshop door and throwing you my canvas with the painting on it, without an invite!

Almost forgot, this is what I have chosen to work with.

Hi Enrique, your painting is turning out really gorgeous. I am with Mu on the issue of the sleeve hues. Maybe tone it down a bit so its softer on the eye. And I see you are about to start working on the head gear. I’ll say a little prayer for you :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey Mark and Kris, its so good to see you guys here. Keep up the good work.

@Fl3wk: Welcome to the OFDW! Everyone is welcome. The more the merrier.

Here’s last night’s progress. I’ve finished the first render pass and have begun to go back in with softer pencils to take care of the darker areas (so far just the face).

#451

I got an email from someone at www.cgbrainchild.com asking if they could put up a couple of my works on their site and they picked the Mona for one of them! It’s on the front page.

Yay for ODFW17!

#452

Congratulations
and its a beautiful indeed…

Hi all, finally got a Wacom tablet a week ago and this is my first effort with it. It’s been fantastic to get to use all those Photoshop brushes at last. I really enjoyed the task as it’s not something I would usually do but now I’m hooked! I need to get used to the tablet and playing about with the brush settings a bit more but any comments will be gratefully received. Always a bit daunting putting your work up to scrutiny but what the heck?!
Cheers!

Mu. thanks for the obsercation, will inmediatly work on it right now,:wip: and thanks for the comments.

Fl3wk, it good to have you on board, hope to see your work soon, I think that a reinterpretation of the piece is very welcome.

Hi Queenie, thanks for the coments and the crits, I really take note of everything, hahaha, thanks the hat of the bashi is something that I have been avoiding, but at last Im closing to it, maybe the OFDW18 should be the bashi’s hat, please pray for me. :wavey:

Botched, fantastic work with the pencils

paperclip, congratulations, well deserved.

#456

Hi Enrique thats very much better.

#457

Okay, here’s the last pencil stage. I went over some of the darker areas… but I got anxious to get going with the painting…

In Photoshop I extended the hatch lines out to the edge of the image, then duplicated the layer and set the top layer to multiply… a quick way to build up the pencil work.

Next, I darked the overall image, focusing more on the background...

I knew I wasn’t going to be focusing on the actual background, so I decided just to put some random textures in with various photoshop brushes…

I started in here with color… aaargh. Always my downfall. Well… here we go, both feet first…

Started in with painting the face… I’ve never really painted like this before… so I’m sure to make lots of mistakes… feel free to point me in different directions!

Okay… that’s it for tonight’s progress. about 3 hours this time.

Thanks! Your painting tutorial completely rocks! Thanks for that!

#458

Botched, thanks for the compliment, glad the tut, was interesting for you, your pianting is turning out great, hope to see it finished, are you using only PS for the color or another traditional media?, the background totally rocks, see ya.

#459

My update, hope u like it, critics and coments are welcome

Blotch - liked the step by step. So you do a drawing outside the computer first, then scan it in to paint with the computer? I am a CG illiterate. Crit… the left ankle looks a little wide, maybe it is just the angle of the leg. Other than that great construction with the pencil.
