fantastic work, highly energetic yet accurate. Love it!
a quick comparison between ref and drawing shows that I suck…
But I prepared the scan and now I will be able to even stretch it a bit… we’ll see…

Billy_Z:thanks, i have been here for long time, the “Artistic Anatomy and Figurative Art” forums is just like home.i have learned so much great things from here.
Mu:thanks man, long time no see!
new sketch.

Well here’s my progress so far. I think I may have gotten the tonal values wrong. Just realized that I need to fix the nose. Let me know what you think.
Nabil.
Sketchbook Thread of Billy_Z

zhuzhu - awesome to see ya back! Great stuff as always
Annette - wow that’s impressive for a mouse attempt! Can’t believe you had the patience ![]()
Billy_Z - I’m using only Photoshop - no special brushes either, just a round brush with 25% opacity and a bit of smudging…
Lots of inspiring stuff going on here. Awesome. Billy_Z love your piece. Looks great. And Annette kudos for doing that with a mouse!!! Fair play, you must be wicked with a pencil in hand.
I know this isn’t going to do me any favours, posting my progress right underneath’s Zhu’s sketch of the same subject. Zhu, why do I get the feeling you knocked that out in 5mins or something while I’ve been struggling with mine for hours lol :p… Well here it is. About 6hrs to this point. I’ve spent far too much time faffing about with the facial features. I also repainted the whole silhouette in darker tones before working on the shadows and lights separately as I should have done from the start.
Brain hurts now…

Just playing with the oils in PAINTER #9
Glenn

Yay workshop! - I finally have the time to participate
I’m really impressed by the level of work in this thread - you’re all doing very well…
Glenn: it’s always a pleasure to watch you experiment with compositions. I like the drama of your recent pic a lot - it tells a story.
darwal: looking good so far. Nice proportions.
zhuzhu: lots of energy, accuracy and story-telling in your sketches - your “lol” gif made me laugh…
Intervain: I love your rendering, am always impressed with your work. - too bad you lost the file. Start a new one?
Womball: looks nice so far - looks like traditional media.
Billy_Z: looks like it’s going in the right direction - perhaps a bit too much contrast in the last one?
Dennis-k: Nice work. Buttocks and lower calves looking a bit too round perhaps
Mu: you don’t suck
I think it’s looking good. Looking forward to seeing it painted.
Here’s mine: about two hours, it’s still just a sketch. Started the face over - that angle is a killer. His body is a bit too thick. Having lots of fun with this.

Ref from the very talented andreja
Glenn: Cool! I like oil!
Intervain: dont worry about lost file. Your work is Great!
Zhuzhu: welcome to back! Great painting! Please continue!
Annette: Great final!
Small step before go to bed 8-)))

Hi…Nikoline…
THANKS.
On yours, …be sure to get that nice S…CURVE that’s in that figure established from the start…on the viewers right side of figure,…there is more of an inward curve of the torso’s edge.
Also in the center line of the torso, …get that angle from his belly button to the center of his chest established.
Right at the pit of his chest…that indent where the top stomach muscles connect…make that dent, angle to the left…following the path of the …S CURVE…
Just some subtle but very important things that I noticed were off a little in the start of your figure…Which is coming out …GREAT so far …by the way…:applause: ![]()
REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THE PROGRESS ON HIM…
GREAT CHOISE…![]()
Dmitriy…THANKS…
…GREAT PROGRESS ON YOURS…STRONG PIECE SO FAR…![]()
TAKE CARE
Glenn
darwal - some take more time than others it’s a learning excercise, good job so far.
womball- coming along keep working.
Iuvo - Coming along quite nicely.
Billy_z - wow, aesome wip, can’t wait to see the finish.
Dennis _K- nice sketch.
zhuzhu - amazing sketch.
Mu - its a bit har to tell with how small the image is right now, but it looks like the head is a bit big from what I can see and you’ll probably have to stretch it like you were saying.
Spiritdreamer-e specially liking what you’ve done withe the gazelle by placing it in that environment Spiritdreamer , can’t wait to see the finish piece.
wow, some really amazing stuff going on here, good work everyone, , well here’s my post just a wip begeinning to to notive that I have a tonne of stuff to fix in terms of proportions, like the arm on the staff not being straight enough the right left being too far out and the head being too straight and the body too erect can’t really feel the bend. let me know if there is anything I missed, also posting updated noce with some texture applied to it.
well I’m off to work on design theis some more plus I gotta work on some stuff in aliasstudio tools to see if I can get my designs featured there (though technically I’m a product design major only 6 of our 40 students are in transportation design.) so wish me luck.
Again all crits and comments welcome and appreciated.
Well, I finally got a couple of hours to actually draw! This is my take on an excellent image, I will finally dare to post between the masters! I think I could really use some advice though, so don’t be afraid to kick my 2d ass (3d guy over here, by the way)
Ok, here it goes:

Hi all
Magdalena - Thanks, you’re too kind
not sure about the patience I spent half an hour… I do think it’s addictive and will surely explore it futher.
Glenn - Thanks! and your’s is coming along nicely, I like the dynamics in your cropped version ![]()
Iuvo - Good to see you’re having fun!
Animegedon - Nice job on the nose - I like the texture
DiM - Thanks for your kind comments!
Looking good! You’ve certainly captured the strength in his pose - possibly angle his head a little to the left - (looking at), look forward to seeing more updates
Darwal - I think she’s looking great - nice progress & hope your brain hurts less after a rest - thanks for your comments too
Billy_Z - Nice progress - watch the eyes and eyebrows; looking a little low at the moment. looking forward to seeing more.
Dennis-K - Nice one
Zhu - Lovely sketches, like your sense of humour too…
LikuidSnake - Great start, head may be slightly large, or maybe just the way I’m looking at it - you’ve captured his pose really well, look forward to seeing this one develop.
Mu - You’ve got the streching bench working, can’t wait to see more
cheers all!

Animegedon…When doing that RUBENS sculptue that ANAND CREATED, you might take a look at, and work from the original RUBENS painting also…might really help in your 2D approach…2 GREAT references to work from, are always better than one…just a passing thought, that might make things easier for you…
Looking forward to seeing the progress on your works…Keep going and posting…![]()
Liquid Snake…Nice start…I like the job done so far on the raised leg,.nice linework on the outter curves there…Do the same all over the figure as you have done on that leg, and it should turn out GREAT.
On the face, you might start by blocking in the basic facial planes first, before refining the details of the exprssion…Just a thought…
Looking forward to seeing the progress on this guy…![]()
THANKS …Annette…
…Wish you had the PAINTER program…I think you would really love it…A ton of GREAT brushes in there to play with, and the colors in the oils, actually mix and blend together, just like the real deal…and the watercolors actually run, and the colors actually blend into each other,…also just like the real deal…AMAZING…MAGIC…

Trying out some of the oil brushes in PAINTER #9 on this antalope, to see if I can get a more realistic sense of fur.
Glenn

Well StaticPen insisted that I do this workshop with him so here I go. Here is my picture (sorry about the quality of the pic I’ll retake it at a better time of day).

Devon…Nice proportions…maybe the head could be just a tad smaller…just a thought
Just a play with lighting and color…
