Open Figure Drawing Workshop - HANDS - 023

#121

Ok here’s my second hand, number 28 on the list.

First off, I’ve only recently (since January) really started to take drawing seriously again and try to practise as much as I can. Drawing was something which I was always pretty good at but when it comes to painting I suck. And I mean suck.

This is literally the first thing I’ve painted with my wacom which I got last week.

I ain’t gonna lie, I used the eye dropper tool for all of this. I learned quite a lot from just doing this small study though. The next hand I’m not gonna use the eyedropper tool regardless of how crap it ends up looking :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, this took about an hour.

Zhay13: I really like the last one there. Even though it’s more of a full figure study :stuck_out_tongue: Can I ask how much time you spent on it?

Anandpg: really nice expressive linework in your 3rd hand.

Here’s my Nr.1.

Beautiful works guys!

This is my hand number 4 from ref 7

Bye

#125

RebeccaK, thank you very much for your advice. I tried to break the drawing down into portions of 15 minutes per “detail” stage. This already helped me a lot to structure my work processes.

I am very amazed by many of these extremely beautiful hand paintings here. I think that me as a beginner can benefit a lot from these animated GIF WIPs. So, if you have one, please post it. They are extremely helpful to study!

Here is Hand #2 from the list. I found it extremely difficult to do - I am not quite sure why, but I had to start over three times to get it more correct.

#126

Rebecca, thanks lol why are you faking destruction on your paintings? mmm…something is going on here

Windroll, Zhay, Embryotic, Yogip, PaulAherne, Nr43, Miguels, Tiziano…nice rendering of the david marble hand. Embryotic the second flipped hand, wow cool marble efffects…Zhay, the baby of Bruges, perfect hands and body but it’s a pity for the head…just a little bit off, if u adjust it then it’s perfect…
Balduran, lol if you don’t like the thumb than erase or paint over a better one  trust your feelings I never trust them and now I’m in the s…t
Espora, nice hammered-hand technique
Myamoto, that’s not shit. That’s david’s hand.
thank to: Calan (cool), Fatebringer (cool tones, pity for the finger tip), Frejasphere great one the n.4 soft pastel on black paper.
Retardedmonkey destroyer of stuff, proportions: shouldn’t it be a little bit more elongated vertically and narrow horizontally?
Ladypurple nice studies
Tizianno I didn’t know at all that there was a Venezia in France too.

I started teaching myself to draw around last Christmas-time. I’m pretty excited about this workshop and I hope I can learn a lot from it. I started by sketching two hands on paper using different techniques to get the proportions. The first hand (#21) was done by a method from “Learning to Draw on the Right Side of the Brain” and the second hand (#42) was done by a method that a friend taught me. “Triangulation” I think it’s called. Anyway, I found that the second method seemed to work a lot better and faster.

I understand this is supposed to be a group critique, but I am so new to drawing that I don’t feel able to comment on any of the drawings. Out of my league, so to speak. So hopefully people will forgive me for my silence in that respect.

Thanks,
-Nathan

Oh man. I’m excited. I suck hardcore at drawing good hands so this will be a wonderful workshop for me! Ok. I lied. I don’t suck hardcore, but i’m not that great at them. They’re really difficult for me so this will be great practice! Thank you so much for putting this workshop up!

peace

Well, I don’t know if I’ll make it to 25 but I will try! Hope no one minds some Illustrator. I was in the mood for vectors. Will probably switch mediums multiple times.

used this reference:
29.
William Bouguereau (1825-1905)
Le Ravissement de Psyche [The Rapture of Psyche]

By the way, is it 25 hands or 25 drawings?

There’s some good stuff in here. I can’t believe the amount and stylistic variety of studies accumulated in such a short time in this workshop.
Here’s one from me, a sketch in Photoshop of one of the to subjects from reference #35:

#131

and one more from ref #35:

#132

Alright, I have worked on this one longer than I care to and it’s not improving … so here it is.

#133

Mmkay. So here’s my first one. I used my own hand as a refrence for this. I proped it up on my leg and drew it. The pointer finger is a lttle small and I probably could have gone more dramatic on my shading but I’m pretty satisfied with this one.

#134

Quick hand study from life drawing class:

#135

Yep. I´d arrive in time for this one…

In a long, long time ago I was drawing like mad… but… life can be so real sometimes and I hardly have mood to sketch. : (
Anyway. That Workshop fit´s perfectly now. Good chance to restart my brain and keep the anatomy studies running.

And it´s nice to see some mates of the Sketchbook thread.

My first attempt to this Workshop are the plates #1 (pencil) and #4 (pixel).

And the two drawings below aren´t counting for the Workshop. I did just to study a little more of the gorgeous hands drawed by the George B. Bridgman.

#136

hi
this is an awesome workshop. we can learn a lot from here. i am so glad to participate here.
here is my contribution. i used MAYA to create this. cheers

#137

I’m a bit afraid to post it here lol :scream: but well we’re all learning and we have to start somewhere. Its number 21:

21.
Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (1780-1867)
Lorenzo Bartolini
Oil on canvas, 1820
41 5/8 x 33 1/2 inches (106 x 85.1 cm)
Musée du Louvre, Paris

I can really see a lot mistakes already and things i can improve (proportions, shading, on and on…) but I thought I’d call it a day. Still, I had much fun and already learned a bit more about the hand anatomy, and that’s what’s the point of this workshop isn’t it?

DELETED POST

Lovely work y’all
More please!

Here’s one I did in Painter IX.5, using a modified Oil pastel brush and the “just add water” blender. Colors may be off because I had it on my 2nd monitor, which isn’t calibrated.

30.
William Bouguereau (1825-1905)
Flagellation de Notre Seigneur Jésus Christ [The Flagellation of Our Lord Jesus Christ]
Oil on canvas, 1880
121 5/8 x 83 3/8 inches (309 x 212 cm)
Cathedral of La Rochelle, La Rochelle

This painting is amazing and has a lot of beautiful hands. It’s my first, but surely not the last hand I’m studying from this ref.

edit: forgot to mention… I count only 4 fingers on this hand (also in the original) and still it seems to look correct… I wonder where the 5th finger went to, haven’t figured that out yet… (I thought maybe the pointing finger is totally hidden, but I just can’t get peace with that thought).

Hey folks, good to see stuff rolling in.

Just a couple of reminders -

1.) Please limit the SIZE of your POSTS to 800 pixels WIDTH x Appropriate pixel LENGTH. No huge posts, please!

2.) Please limit your WIP images per hand since the Workshop calls for 25 hands / person. Please only post one (maximum 2) WIP posts per hand since there will just be too much WIP here if everyone posts more than that per hand. This is as a courtesy to participants who are subscribed here. Please feel free to post additional WIP images to your Personal Anatomy or Sketchbook thread, but I'd like to keep the WIP to a manageable size here since it just becomes overwhelming in terms of volume otherwise. Post ONLY your best work here per each hand, and a gif or step by step process image (in ONE post) is always welcome and appreciated!

          Thanks. :)
