Did a bit of facework, and also doubled the size of my working image (until now I was working at the same size as the reference image). This is at 100% zoom.

Wow there is so much impressive work in this thread.

Digital Sol:That is so freaking beautiful, the left two characters are amazing, quality mate! I added you to msn, hope you don’t mind. I found how to change dpi thanks.

Mr Mu: Please join in :)! I feel really guilty actually because I keep starting to read through your anatomy thread and get lost by the third page and end up skipping to the last page. You improved sooooooooooReoccurring much. The quality of your latest work is amazing. I promise I will take a proper look tomorrow and give you some proper feedback. Thankyou for the detailed explaination of dpi too, I think I understand now. About, the tutorial thread, yes I have seen it but people only post links to external tutorials there do they not? I want to right some for this forum.

Kalorlo: Thats coming along really nicely mate, only crit I have is the mouth needs to be wider. The form and colours are awesome.

Cheers,
~Jack

Jack,

I would be happy for you to create a Tutorial/s of your own! All you need to do is to create a New Thread, and call it TUTORIAL - What it’s about - by Jack Shannon. (Minus the asterisks * of course).

What type of tutorial did you have in mind? I always encourage folks to write and post tutorials as they choose. You needn’t clear it by me, I’m just curious as to your topic.

Cheers,

You know what I really like about these forums is that people treat me like an adult, its such a nice community.

Digital Sol, will do mate, thanks!

Rebecca, Thanks for the thumbs up, I’ll make a start on some soon. Well I what I want to do is do lots of tutorials that can help people with new things I learn along my journey to become good at digital painting, so maybe do some walkthroughs, tips ones like Nebizial sort of thing and some helping people with difficulties that I have had and found ways around. Because I know that even simple things like ā€˜what canvas size’ ā€˜where to start’ ā€˜what to paint’ can knock peoples confidence and stunt their growth as an artist.

Everybody good work!

I was a good girl and did my homework, i.e. I did a gesture study in 15-20 minutes. The composition of this is just dramatic and totally beautiful. (the master, not my study:)).

I am now officially allowing myself to the fun part:); the rendering and colours, jeee!
O yeah, I did this on one layer, 600 by 600, and wasn’t able to erase or change anything, so this is the one try.

#109

Maladie, good start, have fun, I will look to your updates surely.

Ack, I’ve been out of commission with allergies all day sniffle sorry for the lack of activity today guys.

I think when you act like an adult and are mature in your posts, you will be treated like an adult. It’s a pleasure to have your contributions to the forums.

That sounds great! I think the thing then would be to call your thread TUTORIALS - What They’re About - by Jack Shannon. Really looking forward to these!

Maladie,

Great to see your start! What program are you working in? You mentioned that you can’t edit things ~ so I’m wondering if you are working in ArtRage or similar program. It looks like you’re starting off on the right foot, and I look forward to seeing what develops!

Small update…

#112

Hello Rebecca,

what a beautiful, soft flowing style you have!
No worries, I work in Photoshop, but am selftought and therefore have no proper routine for working with layers. I do ofcourse if I remember to put stuff in the right place, but this time I put everything on the background layer:rolleyes:. So if I used the eraser, I got a big white smudge and didn’t know how to change it.
I’m going to progress with the value-study, which was neatly arranged in layers. Do you have any usefull tips for a workflow in PS? Like, the background on one layer, and every character on a separate one? I now put every colour on a separate layer, but that’s not very logical.

#113

my thread is not meant to be a guilt-inducing read:scream: - so just feel free to ignore it, hehe:D But I am glad you like it and thanks for the compliment.

And as concerns treating you like a grown-up: all that is left of you as a person in a forum are your thoughts and your way of expressing things. I couldn’t have guessed your age by these so it’s your merit not ours. We have a saying in Germany which is hard to translate but refers to the fact that the echo is created by the one who shouts.
See?

Update details…

#115

Wow, nice update rebecca, both are very good, but my favorite is the character at Jesus’s left, the old man, great work.

#116

Digital Sol,

Thanks! I took you up on your suggestion to tweak the far left character, so I’m still trying to work on them all.

Maladie,

Thanks a lot for the compliment!

I am not the best person at organizing my layers, so I recommend doing as I say, and not as I do. However, that being said, here is more or less how I have things organized so far. I create folders for the different elements in the picture (I’m not always perfect about keeping these completely ordered, but I try) and within those folders are the layers pertaining to that particular element.

It’s really important to name your layers / and or folders, as you can lose track of them pretty quickly otherwise. To name a layer or folder, you just double click on it, and type your name. Press enter after you’ve named it.

[left]Anything you do in PS can be edited easily. So that, even if you have everything on the background layer, you can use your lasso tool to select the individual figures, and copy and paste them onto their own layers so that you have them all separated out. You can scale, rotate, re~whatever the indidual elements then.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about the basic functions of PS.

Cheers,

I need to catch you up soon.(some words in english that i recently learn)

#119

Enrique,

Thank you! Don’t worry, we have 3 weeks left in the Workshop, there is plenty of time to catch up. The food is the least exciting to paint, but after you start, it’s not hard, and it gets to be fun…just jump in!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Wow, Rebecca, that moving tutorial picture-thingie (I’m losing myself with this line…) is really helpful! Interesting, it seems like you arranged the different pieces of the painting in order of depth. That’s a really good way of working in a sort of 3D way! Which is ofcourse, I realise just now, what layers are for…ahem.

I’m going to try it, thanks!
