ZhuZhu, fantastiacally rendered there. So loose and bold and yet somehow very detailed. Very inspiring.
Zhuzhu,
Thanks for the closeups! ![]()
Heya Vidar,
Feel free to jump in at any time!
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Garr, more slow progress
~ added a bit of a stencil to the tablecloth, and am starting to add the chair ~ many small refinements…
[left]It’s hard for me to believe how anyone ever painted to such a degree traditionally ~ I have an even deeper respect for Caravaggio than I did previously. The achievement in his painting is just mind boggling!
Cheers,

I’m backing up Rebecca here ! I’ve been always fascinated by these people ! I’m also fascinated by people who can just paint traditionally without a CTRL-Z tho … And also fascinated by you guys all who can reproduce these masterpieces in such low delays and yet so well , I’m pretty sure Caravaggio is grinning in his grave lately ! I’m fascinated by Korean people who don’t like rice too …
…
w00ting work everyone !
chears ,

Rebecca,
I think you can emulate a soft brush effect. By default you have a standard hard brush but you can create that look by changing the brush opacity properties. its somewhat different than PS which has preset hard and soft brushes along with opacity levels for the airbrush.
It’s not quite painter or art rage like, but it does the trick.
Of course my knowledge is pretty limited about these things, but this is my understanding with it so far.

Hello everyone, this was a very unproductive weekend for me, but here is some update, I consider the background that i get a bit darker and the characters finished and I worked a little bit the table and the items, hope u like.
@Bakatron.
Thanks a lot for your words, you already have a really good level, sure, like everything with the practice u get better, but you are doing a great work here.![]()
@Zhuzhu.
Thanks a lot, Im a fan of your work, really awesome tutorials, your version of the supper is reaaalllyy good rendered with some few colors, :applause:
@Rebecca.
Really beautiful paint u have there, did u make the stencil in a vectorial way and then pasted it, I was thinking do something like that, over all a great work, congrats :applause:
Thanks to all for ur opinions, Im trying to do my best with the time that I have, also I have always loved this paint, so that makes it easier.
Hi…Enrique…
I have been watching your painting from the start, and have really enjoyed it’s developement.
I like the golden warmth of it. I think you have done a really great job on it also…![]()
Would like to see some more detail in the beards on the two seated figures, and in the mouth
area of the seated figure on the right. The hand , forarm and wrist of Jesus. that is on the
table needs more defineing shadow and highlight. The chicken needes to have that golden
browned wet and crisp looking texture that it has to it when it just comes out of the oven,
along with the bread also. The fruit needs to have a wet shine to it, with stronger highlights
and shadows, to give it that shimmer and sparkle, that makes you want to pick it up and
eat it. The white table cloth needes to look like it is draped over the front of the table, there should be a highlighted crease along the front edge of the table top, where it hangs
over, and a slight shadow on the part that hangs over the edge.
These are just a few minor details, but will really add to the beauty of your already beautiful painting, and as Rebecca says, will take it to a higher level…
GREAT JOB SO FAR…:applause:

Great to see you back chearing here, Steph!
Hey, making both Caravaggio and Steph grin in the same day is a pretty good achievement, I’d say!
Chears!

No worries, abbas, I guess the main bit is just diving in.
Enrique is doing an amazing job using mostly hard brushes and that seems to be the standard practice…I guess when using hard brushes, value control becomes even more important. Looking forward to seeing your update!

Enrique, thanks a lot! I did make the pattern (just one section) with paths, marquee box selections, etc., and then stroked the paths so that the background was transparent. I then just placed them on top of the tablecloth and duplicated the pattern two or three times. It still needs to be made a lot more subtle, so it’s not finished yet.
Your painting is looking amazing, and I am tremendously impressed in particular by how you paint cloth ~ it’s beautiful! It’s great to see you starting in on the food on the table ~ I think once you’re all finished, this piece will really blow people away! ![]()
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
@Glenn:
Thanks man, all your observations will be listened, I agree with u I need to work the food, and as for the details on the characters, I cant see all the details on the jpg image but will try put them on the 4th pass, (Im on the 3rd, generally I give 4 or 5 passes before I put color), and :shrug: I havent work the tablecloth yet, but I will take note, I hope my next update like u, Thanks again.
@Rebecca:
Thanks a lot, glad u like it!!!
So you did it that way, I was thinking do that in Corel Draw and retouch it in PS, I will try it. Because I dont dominate the paths on Ps or Illustrator,:shrug:

Enrique,
Yep, here is the ‘stencil’ I made (not traced):

[left]Each element of the design is on a separate layer, and the gray background is on a layer so that I could turn down it’s opacity so you could see the tablecloth beneath. Ultimately I just discarded the gray background altogether. Eventually I added a layer of black on a low opacity setting on top of both the tablecloth and the pattern. I may blur the pattern a bit at some point as well.
The nice bit about symmetrical patterns is that you can just make one half, duplicate the layer (Ctrl + J) and then flip it horizontal (or vertical) to create the other half.
Cheers,
~Rebeccak

WOW, beautiful work, Enrique!
Sigh I guess I’ll have to do this too eventually…will try to work on mine more today. Those reds are just gorgeous! Are you using the Color Blending mode? Really fantastic results! :applause:
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Hi knocking on the table & say hello,
Fantastic work!!! I enjoy looking at the WIPs of you all, it is amazing to see the different ways and the results.
Ciao,
Ellie
Rebecca, Thanks a lot here is a printscreen from how i work

over the tonal values, i make a layer in color mode with the colors, and over this i retouch in a normal layer with overlay mode brushes, and other with hard light, after that, generally i make another layer in color mode with color variations, and after that I look for a texture for all the paint.
Ellie, any update for ur paint?, I liked very much, I hope u take it further, will wait for it.:wavey:
Ellie,
Great to see you back! Thank you for the encouragement!
Enrique,
Thanks for the explanation and the screenshots! I always find that really helpful.
Well, as painful as the comparison is (I’ve come nowhere close to the perfection of the original ~ even in grayscale!!! ~ here it is:
[left]Mine looks so much better when it’s not next to Caravaggio’s…
Since I can no longer see this objectively, anyone’s comments and criticism is most welcome.
Cheers,
~Rebeccak

OMG I gave everyone a tiny head!
I just overlaid my version overtop of the original ~ and realize that I gave people pinheads ~ every single figure! LOL…the question is…do I have the stamina to fix the poor pinheads…I can only wonder…
Serves me right for not using a grid…
Good for a laugh:
If your working with PS, the liquify tool is realy helpful for fixing proportions Rebecca(you probly already knew that tho hehe). Also I like the way you did the central guy even better than the original.
@Rebecca:
It looks really great, sure, is not the same that caravaggio’s, but I think no one will make an exact copy, and in ur own style is great; the only thing i look a little bit strange is the paint over the tablecloth, because it is totally linear, and ur tablecloth have some drappling, but u can fix it with a displacement map or some filters like spherize or liquify, great work over all, if u fix that, 5 stars for me ![]()
