I give up. I can´t. I´ve tried every single pose in this one. I start sketching, I stare on the screen for half an hour. And turn the computer off… I start another sketch, and then the same procedure… I just can´t find where to start. So, I leave it to rest for now, and lurk around admiring your pieces instead. I really like the different styles you´re all trying out. Stepping out of your normal way of painting and creating. And that´s a really good indication that those kind of forums are important. We encourage each other to try more, to want more and to dare more:) Cool.

Today is New Years Eve. The storm has ended, I´ve been able to get out of the house, and tonight I have the whole house filled with friends. Life is good.
I want to send my thoughts and hugs to all of you who´s not here tonight :), and wish you a Happy New Year, and see you all 2006! :bounce::wavey:

Yeah I can totally relate to that. I think the key is patience and lots of it, it seems that not having the patience is the biggest problem among aspirering artists. its pretty common that an Illustration will look like crap for most of the proses and its not because anything is wrong whit its simply that one hasn’t finished rendering it yet.
for me this was one of the most important lesions to learn, I remember I use to have tons of curled up drawings on the floor and it wasn’t because they were bad drawings, they just didn’t look good immediately, and I was too quick to discard them. It was first when an instructor forced me to keep on working on the same drawing, even thou it thought it look awful, that I got the results I wanted. I still go trough what you’re feeling right now every time I start a drawing, I get depressed and think that I don’t have what it takes, but I think I gained the foresight now to know that if I stick whit it its all gonna turn out alright.

Don’t give up on a drawing or painting right away if it doesn’t look like you want it to, locate the areas that work and those that don’t and correct them and keep on doing this until your satisfied. try to force your self to keep on working on the same painting, even thou you think it looks horrible and what you really want to to do is start over. you have the skill, just be a little more confident and have patience.

hope to see a painting from you soon.

~David René.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE and HAPPY NEW YEAR…
SaraD …Sweden better stop bogarting all the snow…the rest of us need some also…
Sorry to hear that your haveing troble starting your poses, sounds like Rett is haveing
the same problem. Have you tried useing the peanut method…makes it simple for any
pose…just draw a peanut with a similar shape angle wise, as the modeles pelvis and
torso, then add legs, feet…arms, hands…neck, skull, and face…in that order…Hogarth
formula…A very simple method, that works every time, no matter how hard the pose
seems…Hope it helps, worth a try anyway…

Rett…she needs more belly…to much of an hour glass shape there…think her head and
neck are set deeper into her torso in photo…sharper angle on collar bones…
Hey… forgot to tell you…in that sea lion cave, there is a dead sea lion on a ledge, that
has turned to stone…petrified…that’s how long they have been comeing there to have
their babies…gives you a real sense of time, when you see it…

Thanks a lot for your best wishes and all my best wishes go way up north to you! And while Corvax is definitely right about how stubborn termination will eventually get you there I think that sometimes giving up is a good expereince, too. It’s like in a chess game: discarding a currentplan in order to focus on another.

And having the house full of friends sounds like a damn good plan! We’ll do the same.

Have a nice end of the year and a happy new year to everyone.

My update, focused on the face and trying to get a likeness using Glenn’s fabolous hints of OFDW007. Not quite there, but I am happier with her face than with any other face I did…always useful to know what to be happy about:D

The only credit I desrve, in this likeness problem, is for shareing what I just happened
upon in the library…seemed to have helped you as much as it helped me…GREAT…

Take Care and HAPPY NEW YEAR…MR MU… :bounce:

I’m not finished yet, but I don’t think I’ll be able to work on it any more today… I hope we don’t have to make it look exactly like the photo with colours and portions :s

Thanks Vidar & Spirit

Spirit, I normally use three brushes when doing skintones (unless I’m doing a speedpaint, then only two), a solid brush, airbrush, and a scatter brush. I can throw something together so you can see which ones, if you would like. it’ll take me a few minutes though

#93

OK, sorry about the size…

edit- I forgot to say photoshop 7, though it’s probably apparent now.
and sorry it wasn’t neater or anything, I sort of was in a hurry to eat

cypherx - I love the cool atmosphere and the great sense of depth your lighting conveys!

mecha hate chimp - delicate face and soft expression on her look. I like that very much!
