I’m stilling using my original Maya 6.0 for various reasons (laughing allowed). I am creating a parting theater curtain. I made the curtain by drawing a curve, duplicating it, and then lofting between the curves. I then deleted the history. I added soft body dynamics and ended up with exactly what I wanted from an overall animation perspective. The curtains part with a very lifelike flowing motion.
The problem is in the rendering. Any time the curtain appears to be bending back around from the camera perspective, I’m getting a very jagged edge. See image below.
I’ve tried:
–Advanced tesselation
–Cranking up AA settings
–turning off all shadows on the lights
–High quality settings on both software and mental ray renderers
–Like a number of other “obvious” items
My suspicion is that this has something to do with the dynamics since the purple curtain, which doesn’t move, renders perfectly and was modeled in the same lofted curve approach.
I’m hoping someone might offer some suggestions on how to fix this problem.
Thanks!
