Odd nHair Dynamic to Static Issue

I have a rather odd problem that I’m having trouble researching. This problem has been persisting since the beginning of my project, but long story short, no matter what I do my nhair follicles are always dynamic.

Now, my hair was created using Mike Fudge’s tutorial where you create curves and parent them to the character’s head. From the curves, lofted surfaces and more curves are generated. From there, you assign the hair and it should follow everything through history. Which it does just fine if I jump through the timeline. But once I hit play, the hair is left behind.

I create my nhair in Static, the hairsystemShape is also Static, everything is Static except for the follicles. They come in dynamically. So I tried grabbing them and turning them all Static manually but Maya crashes each time… but only if I grab every last one. If I leave one follicle dynamic, the rest move with the head. But they still move during playback as if they’re dynamic.

Right now, my workaround involves grabbing that last follicle which is attached to a duplicated curve and hiding it behind a wall. I don’t even know what to do about the rest still wiggling, so I left them. But I would really love to fix this if possible.

My senior thesis is due in 3 days and I still need to render, so I’m hoping for a fast solution. I would really appreciate any advice you can give me.
