Ocean - Coast line Need some help

#1

I am tying to work on a coast line and I am having trouble blending the huse of blue and green together for a realistic effects.

I did a search on ocean and coast line and didn’t find anything, so I thought I might start a thread to discuss some techniques in painting this blend of blues, greens and white.

I know that the different hues are from light hitting the water, where the depth of the water at that point is shallow or deeper depending but capturing that has eluded me in photoshop.

So, does anyone have a good tutorial on this I could follow, or perhaps some techniques I could work on to help.

Also, feel free to post some ocean or coast line work you have done and explain how you achieve some of the effect you did.

Thanks in advance for you time and help.

hi
one way i have found that works quite well and a way to test it is
Start a new doc in photoshop and fill it with r,68 g,126 b,132 or something close that you prefer, and then play about with the dodge , burn and sponge tool, sponge is especially good for producing the effects of lihjt in water, you can then apply this technique to your image
hope this helps

thanks Bing!

I will give that a try and see what I can do with it. I will post a before and after shot with the results.

Thanks

Ok bing,

I took your idea and ran with it. Here is what I came up with. I am posting a before pic so you can see the tremendious difference by comparison. Thanks for the tip, it was just what I needed to get the ball rolling for me.

I also did a little mixing of light as well in order to bring out some cool effects as well. So your seeing a blend of painted texture + placed lighting that will use the refraction in order to create some of the effects.
