Object interaction without physics

#1

Hey, so I posted this in another thread here but I thought I might try it in a thread on its own.

“-In a scene, if you want to drop your objects onto a plane and to get the objects to interact with eachother without setting any kind physics… is this possible? Just to drop the objects so that they stay on top of eachother on the plane? This kind of troubles me because I haven’t found the best way to do that, sometimes it is difficult to search the right term for something like that aswell.
//I have tried just with adding gravity but no luck with it this far…”

So the main question perhaps is to make objects interact like with collision but make them stay hard objects and not soft body or anything else which in itself would manipulate the object.
See ya

hi,

the only way right now is to use the game engine and bake the physics to the ipo (this in 2.49, dont know if it’s available in 2.5) or wait for the gsoc from Aligorith to get in the trunk.

There is a script “Drop on to ground” or something like that, but it is good only for small objects.

#4

Is there a way to adjust the “cloth” physics so that it acts as a hard surface?

#5

Small? as small in blender units?

#6

A small in terms of screen size of final render.

#7

Aha cool, does it work with several objects?

#8

dac, I know you know your stuff. How do apply gravity to objects then if I want them to interact with eachother?

#9

What kind of force? and collision on them all?

#10

The script is very simple - no physics. To do physics just use bullet or as pointed earlier but not too effective use cloth or softbody with maxed stiffness - but it will be slow and may not work as expected. Just remember to set obstacles.

You know funny thing is I feel some settings in Blender is upside, down. Why isn’t there a default setting gravity to objects without making it render in blender game?
Tried some gravity in “p” (game) but then I realized I couldn’t freeze the
frame, haha crazy I feel like punching myself. :wip:
