OBJ vs FBX export materials

#1

How to export FBX with different materials? (imported to Marmoset, ZBrush, etc. )
this is the same cube, the FBX just use default material.

#2

What do the Silo scene materials look like?

#3

They look like:

#4

I admit to being a bit confused. The silo model imported to your other program with the correct materials. Did you copy it to get the two other duplicates but the materials didn’t transfer? Or, are you wanting to export other materials not assigned to an object in Silo with the .FBX export? If it is something else, or if someone else understands what is being asked perhaps they can answer or clarify.

#5

the two blank cubes are FBX exported from Silo, the materials did not export.
The “OBJ_1mCube” is OBJ exported from Silo with the materials

#6

Silo to Toolbag
ExportScene_OBJ = imports to Toolbag 3.02 with materials + coordinates
SaveSceneAs_OBJ = imports to Toolbag 3.02 with materials + coordinates

SaveSceneAs_FBX = no material and coordinates are shifted down -Y
ExportSceneAs_FBX= no material and coordinates are shifted down -Y

Thank you for clarifying. Unfortunately I have no idea what is going on since I never use the .FBX exporter. It was broken for so long, and .OBJ worked so well, that I have no experience with it. Hopefully Nevercenter can shed some light on it.

Also, are you using the latest build. I would think you are but it’s worth asking.

Silo 2.5.02
FBX was suppose to be one of the big updates. I’ve used OBJ for years, but ZBrush and Unity all use FBX. One file to rule them all, please.

Just a bit to add:
I create an object in Cinema4D and assigned five different colours to various faces of it, exported it to FBX and opened in Silo2.5.

The object came in bearing the Silo default colour and only the first two of the five materials were imported to the materials list with it.

A Silo object exported and then imported into Cinema4D did not come with any materials at all upon import.
