Nuke Explosions..for Ka-boom freaks only!

@Aikiman:
Yo man I am lookin forward for Nuke challenge!
people have been complaining thru mails & PM that I m playblast artist who never puts any final render which is unfortunately true but it doesnt mean that I lack rendering capabilites.
May be this fxwar might show off My rendering skills :).
till then keep complaining folks…will post more playblast for fun.
Aiki, hope u also take a ride with us in FXWAR.

best,
Vik

Go Vik show them that Fluids are better than FumeFX :buttrock:.Damn I hope that ppl will post how they actualy made theyre nuke’s so I can learn more from them, this would be AWESOMEEEE :buttrock: .

#103

Yeah not sure ATM, Im a bit snowed under with freelance work too plus I dont really have the hardware to deal with the necessities of the shot (not enoguh ram for caching for starters). I have a good idea I want to use though but it would require lots of shattering and lots of mini explosions rather than a nuke. Anyway I dont want to make yous look bad. haha

#104

Hi all, definitely gonna try the challenge. Doubt I can compete with Vik but one can always try!

#105

@jose :
You dont have to compete with me instead we can compete with Fume Fx (nothing personally), That will add more fun to it.
Infact, Anyone can cook Fluids  Be my guest!
Best,
Vik

Hey guys,
just stumbled accross this thread and its awesome! viki164 your work is amazing. Im going to try creating a big explosion but im having difficulty getting the shape right. How do you guys get the upward plume and the outwards ground explosion? I’m using a volume axis for the first few frames and i can get a decent ground explosion but there is no vertical column.

#108

ok aaaam 1 more playblast from me :>.Its still too fast damn it T_T.

#109

I like it. You may want to key your emission off sooner. And also add a little drag. Decrease your buoyancy and the strength of your volume axis a bit, so the shape could be less uniform. Nice job though.

#110

looking good there /thumbsup, BTW is that a HW draw bug or are you animating those volume axis fields up and down the Y axis?

#111

heres my first attempt

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkZCbPoPP-k

im having a problem rendering fluids, in the high resolution video i can see the voxel slices, but the grid is square (10,20,10 and 100,200,100), is there something i am doing wrong? rendered using maya software.

#112

Hi,its not a bug they are animated, becouse the magnitude is too high and if I left them they will brake the fluid apart :>.Basicly I’m using them to push the fluid up and suck it in so it can make the mushroom looking shape.
This is one pic with velocity draw pic

Jedi this is awesome man.Maybe your res to size is not accurate thats why you have that problem.

#113

@jedipottsy:

Adjust ur shading transparency & make your opacity graph look like a mountain using smooth/spline method. that might help!

#114

Try to oversample at 2, or 5. Recommend not using Maya software. Not friendly for fluids. Use mental ray. Low quality with segmented shadows turned on. This may help.

#115

I cant save some speed from the volume axis field ,becouse I(think)will lose that tail, but the drag option could do the trick thx man ;>.
Btw the sim is driven with 4 newton fields and one volume axis field. The sphere that look like axis field is basicly fluid emmiter that emits only heat :>.

#116

wow thats a cool technique I never thought of, simple idea and yet effective.

#117

I’m still searching for other combinations, but so far 2 or more newton fields are the best for this kinde of boooooom!!! :>.
BTW Aikiman I download that script thats in your blog(the fluid container auto-resizing)and its cool, but is there a way to make it resize only on some directions that I need or it just expand in every direction T_T?

#118

Hi, guys.
Here is my more or less successful test with fluid explosion.

Thank you all for sharing your tips and tricks.
The Maya Fluids are so delicate tool. I am planning to study them deeper.
Best regards,
Vladimir

#119

Dude this is awesome can you share your res and some settings pls :>.
BTW I check you real for wanted its crazy.I love that movie one of the best at 2008 gj :>.

Vladimir,

I think its a successful test. Great job. Speed is nice and base plume is spot on. Dissipates perfectly.
Congrats on “Wanted”, must of been fun.
