Thanks Duncan,
That change to smooth got rid of the square voxels. Wont make that mistake again!

Just 2 more tests from me I will try to improve them latter, becouse I’m ill now(damn flu T_T),so maybe after week or 2 xD.
Anyway link .
No Temp/fuel,all grids for the 1st 20 frames after that all grids except velocity. For some reason if I leave velocity only it just destroy the fluid T_T,but with all grid except velocity it dont brake as I want it T_T,so this is like compromise variant xD.
Nice tests Kdronez. If you can find a way to make the ground blast and the plume happen together on you second test, it would be perfect. The base starts first, hanging around a bit, then the plume begins.
Will try to do smth thx for the tips ;>.I didnt experiment with wave that much :> and I dont know how to do the boom effect, but when I get better I will try to make it xD.
Very nice kdronez.
tokanohanna, I was wondering how do you solve that problem? I always try to build the base shockwave and the plume at the same time, but never quite get it right. I animate a volume axis for the direction of the temp or animate the temperature buoyancy itself, but I always can see a small time gap between the blast and the plume.
I would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thanks!
I’m not sure if this is what tokanohanna mention, but anyway I hope you’ll like it xD.

First off I’d like to say this is an amazing post with alot of talented contributors. I stumbled across viki164’s video on Youtube and have been mesmorized ever since. I then searched high and low on the internet and found this thread and realized how much work has gone into it. I also realized I know nothing about Maya Fluids. So for the last 5 days I’ve been studying this thread and any other training material I can get my hands on, including using my subscription to Digital Tutors I won through 3D World last month…Yipee! But I digress, although I have learned a great deal I am still overwhelmed by what has been done here. I can honestly say I have never felt stumped before, until now…I just don’t get it! I’ve been able to get a pretty decent “Mushroom Cloud” effect but then I get a problem somewhere else…tweak it…then something else gets out of wack…tweak it again…something else gets out of wack…again and again and again. It’s possible I’m just WAY too fixated on this and need to just set it down for a while and pick it up again later. I’ve read alot of people ask for a tutorial on this and I’m going to do the same. I understand that alot of trial and error has gone into this for alot of you and I’m not wanting the easy way out…I really want to know why it is what it is. If anyone wants to help me out on this I would be very appreciative. If not…no worries as I will eventually figure it out and include my findings here. Again, great job by all of you!
You can read all the stuff on fluids and get all the tips etc etc, but you dont get the perfect fluid unless you put time into it. The more you do the more you understand which attribute does what.
Thanks for the prompt reply Aikiman. I am starting to understand which attribute does what and I have been trying simulations over the last 3 days or so. I think I have learned more from this thread about Maya Fluids than anything else. This seems to be my “White Whale” so to speak…lol! I’ll keep hacking away at it though. Thanks again!
could anyone pls tell me where i could get tutors to start with dynamic pyrotechniques.
could any one help me where i could get tutors to have a start in fluids dynamic explotions
Obviously I am new to Maya Fluids but I have found this thread informative, Digital Tutors has an introductory tutorial that’s pretty good and there use to be some Gnomon DVD’s that are also very good but can’t seem to find them on the website anymore.
Also, here’s a few plugins that are amazing to setup different types of explosions. You can learn alot by disecting the prebuilt settings.
Weapons of Mass Destruction:

Peter Shipkov Overburn/Afterburn:

Just thought this might help others in their quest for the perfect explosion.
guys iam one of passionates of effects.i want to work as a 3d simulator and work for movies and iam practising for it.but some people and two of my seniors said that scope for dynamics is very poor and there are only limited openings. They are really freaking me.Is this true is it that much difficult to get a job in india for this field.hepl me in this.
The field is definitely more narrow than say a modeler but effects work is growing. It also depends but your scope of effects work. Obviously the more you know the more employable you will be. If you learn applications for nCloth, hair, and of course fluids you will be far more marketable. Also keep in mind the game industry. They are pushing some pretty great effects stuff. In less than a year games might have more work than films.
Well I’m almost finishing my Master degree and I hope I can get a job in the effects area.
But in my country it’s difficult, 90% of the work is architectural projection.
That’s a good advice Todd, the games industry are evolving a lot.
Cheers
I hope you will have more luck than me VTeixeira :>.In my country we have only 2-3 places and for me its like 1% chance to get a job in VFX sphere if I dont have strong connections which I dont have xD :>.Also I dont have university degree(well I studyed Informatics and Information Technology 2 years, but that doesnt count xD) and this holds me back alot even that some of my friends(mostly 3d modeling atrists xD)are telling me that I have better knowledge with Maya than most of the ppl who works in this companys xD.
I rly wish you alot of luck and with this last clip that I saw I’m sure you will get a job fast :>.
galaboyss sry for the late replay man.Well like Aikiman said everything is in this threat, but anyway the base (for my sims)is:
Velocity scale+swirl (with maya 2011 + noise too)+simulation rate+solver quality keying.
You just need to make some basic values for these options and start to tweek them :>.
On this last scene its 2 containers. Also I dont use temp+fuel, but thats becouse I cant aford more calculations(my PC sucks) so you could try to experiment with that too :>.I actualy made 2 layers and rend them separate becouse maya crushes when I rend them together (res was too high xD).Everything else is some more tweeking in AE xD.
If you guys want to understand fluids and basicly everything in maya xD you could always use THE HELP xD thats how I started. In some of the tutorials they miss some of the options that latter could be useful for you T_T.
