Spirit Dreamer,

Great stuff! I would give it a more in depth crit, but I have to get some things finished for my CGWorkshop which starts Monday…I hope my other comments are helpful. You are doing a tremendous job! I would just focus on really going in, without any filters, and just painting. That upper shoulder is beautiful, and I would love to see the whole piece in this style.

Cheers,

Spirit Dreamer: Thank you! and wow terrific job so far! you’ve such simple yet so powerful brushstroke and your highlights conjure such a great flow to the pic. esp love the shoulder and ankle areas. with such skills, i wonder why would you need any filterings at all:thumbsup: !. a lil 2 cents, if it’s okay, his nose position is currently-off from the head’s central axis. also i think zhu-zhu has more “square-ish” jaw (if you after for zhu-zhu likeness that is). again, inspiring stuff as usual, i’m looking forward for your update!

Augustus: Impressive work so far! the tones and colors are working very well, esp love how you define both hands and the expression on his face:thumbsup: . both ears looks a lil weird though, imho. Still, great job!

Hi to everyone.

I’ve just got back from a week in the countryside. So haven’t been near a computer, and could hardly wait, to see what has been happening on this thread.

I must say it’s a real pleasure to see so many sharing their process, in WIP’s. Really very generous and enlightening.

augustus: I like your treatment of this pose. Cropping the top of the head works really quite well. It connects the top and bottom of the canvas, like a column. This together with your rendering of his flesh tones, and the slightly jagged texture of the backdrop. Gives a tremendous masculine appeal to this image.

Spirit Dreamer: following the progress of your work has been totally involving, very enjoyable. More please.

b2dermawan: The face in your first pose is very strong, really moody. And a good overall dynamic going on with the background and the pose.
Your second, for me, seems to have lost its way a bit in last update. Earlier, there was better integration of the whole image. Right now, his lower right leg, particularly his foot, seems to have got all the attention. Which makes other areas seem unfinished. Really terrific colours.

Amerasu: Lovely work.

pushav: I absolutely love this. It has the beginnings of a really good painting. I like how your small brushstrokes on the figure indicate its flow, and dynamic. You could offset these with broader marks defining the wall and floor. The contrast of those pinks and deep Indigo Blue/Blacks are wonderful. Have a look at some of Pierre Bonnard’s work:

Spirit Dreamer,

You are doing a fabulous job! I have just pointed out a few things in the following review which I hope will be of help.

I think you just need to focus on some of the big picture things, like resolving the values, particularly in his right leg. Also, a bit more attention needs to be paid to the areas noted above…the major things I think need to be tweaked are the lower right arm and hand, and the left arm and hand ~ these seem too small, particularly the hands, which should be in area about the same size as the face. Hold your own hand over your face and note the size similarity.

You’re doing an excellent job, and it is quite enjoyable to watch your progress. Keep working on this, and try to avoid using the filters to paint from this point forward. Keep at it, and try to increase the visual impact of the piece by really manipulating Values.

Looking forward to your next update!

Cheers,

Augustus,

Wow, amazing!!! You are doing an incredible job, and this has really come a long way since your last post!

I think now perhaps you should focus on bringing in some selective lighter lights ~ add more contrast, so that certain parts stand out more than others, and there is not an even tone to the whole picture.

But clearly you know the direction in which you are going, so I would just like to see more updates on this! :)

b2,

I think this looks great, but there is something that is just too static about the line of his back. I think that the interesting thing about a figure is always the dynamism of the pose, and I think that this piece could have more dynamism in terms of the linework and expressiveness, particularly with respect to the back. But this is another really solid piece from you! :) I would just say to try to vary the shading and contrast a bit more in the figure, as he looks rather to have an evenly lit tone...more contrast and variation would make the pose and the picture more interesting. :)

Great work, guys!!!

Cheers, :)

Hej there.
I finished my next work…it is rough and fast drawn. Well and i am glad to see a man on zhuzhu’s photos but as a man i think it’s more funny to photograph female people.
But I love women! I hope you don’t think i am bisexual. XD

Crassisco,

Great to see your work here! Lol, I don’t think any of us would think that you’re bi~sexual for drawing a man.

You’ve got a good start here, but one thing I would reconsider is the size of the head. I think at this point it is too small for the body. Take a look again at the photo and compare the size of zhuzhu’s head to his body.

Do you plan to work any more on this piece, or attempt one or both of the other ones? Do you work digitally at all?

Cheers,
