#281

Lol! I left myself open on that one.
Off to class… Then updating my greyscale image.

Rebecca- I am shocked. Are you spamming with me;)
If so …:buttrock:.

#282

No. Ok ~ no more spam for either of us. really.

Cheers!

#283

Hey,

I realized Ihaven’t post any WIP, so here it is :

I’ve modified the 2nd pose (legs longer) thanx to a good remark made yesterday. ; I also refined Background of the first.

#284

Arctis,
AWESOME!!! :bounce:Thanks for posting this! Can’t really look at it closely, lol, but from what I have seen, it looks fantastic!!! (I am like a stealth critiquer, hahaha ;))

Will definitely check it out more closely later!

Cheers!

Samanthie : hey, it’s coming along nicely. Maybe still too blured for me yet. Keep it up

Sevenmars : strong painting ; however I would simplify her hair and the background ; I also
would smooth her torso just above her breast, and strengthen a bit the contrast.

Rebecca : Thanx, and very nice progression on your painting : I like the way you stylise the pose, and still always understand it from the inside. Cool work, and wonder how’s gonna the colors

Lemog : nice experiment : I always enjoy highly contrasted picture

Zhuzhu : lovely use of watercolor (a difficult technique). I personnaly don’t see her foot enough, though.

PSR : great start : I especially like the foot. It’s a shame you don’t work on it anymore.

#286

Arctis,

Thank you! And thank you for these comments! Everyone is doing such a great job of critiquing each other…I’m so proud! tear

Wow, not quite sure at what point this went to hell. This looks terrible. It looks even worse after I scanned it. I’ll be doing it over…maybe digital…

#288

Arctis, it’s great to see your wip. Are they pencil drawings that you started with? If so, it’s very nice to see, your process.

Thank you Rebaccak, Lemog and Arctis, for your comments. Maybe I’ll make the next one a bit more refined, if I can. But I find it very difficult to cover my tracks, so to speak. I do love mark making, all be it virtual ones with PS.

Also there’s the difficulty of using photographs as figure reference. I mean the danger of creating a still life of a photograph, rather than a figure study. A pitfall that everyone on this thread has very skillfully avoided falling into.

I’m sure I’ll get there, with your help.

#289

Gotta run, be back to post comments a bit later…

#290

Actually Bsmith it doesn’t look terrible at all. It has a very Expressionist feel to it, reminds me of the work of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.

A bit more tonal range would give it a bit more punch, try a softer pencil on the back ground. And you’ve squeezed yourself a bit tightly on the page, causing you to make the foot, and perhaps the head a little small. Otherwise very striking composition and nice marks.

If you want to go for more realism. Definitely go digital, you can then set up reference on separate layers to keep you in proportion

#291

thanks. actually my scanner is what cropped the image a little tight.

yeah I’ll prolly definitely try digital now and see how that goes. but I still feel worthless if I can’t draw with a pencil so I have to continue with that medium as well.

#292

Here’s my attempt. This is my first digital painting (I usually draw with pencils). I made a pencil sketch, scanned it and painted in Photoshop. I’d like to add more details, but at the moment I am spent! So far I’ve spent 6 or 7 hours on it.

#293

looks ggod for being your first digital painting.I would try to define the foot a little more…for some reason that was the most distracting part. Don’t really know what else to say but good job and keep going.

#294

Lovely watercolor, Zhu. Very exciting.

Here’s the latest state of my painting. Went for an “outdoorsy” look."

#295

wow db…that looks awesome. The colors are awesome. Everything looks good to me.

#296

Hi,
Well I have spent more time on this today. Much more done to define edges, face and hair. I also need to add a few more shadows. All for today.

SevenMars…excellent image and lots of personality too.

Lemog…thanks again. I tried to do what you suggested and balance between face and body.
Your image is awesome. Maybe on the lower back of lower leg it looks a little thin above the ankle.

Arctis…It’s great to see the wip images as well. Finals look great. Thanks for your comment on mine. I worked to define edges today. Still working on it but have to stop for today.

Lots of really great image posted in this thread. I’ve looked at each one. Amazing how different we all see the images. Great work everyone!

#297

are u kidding me?? page 20 already?? gee you guys are like supertrains!

hope i got’em in the right order:

allenatl: hey thanks man, and hey that’s a very effective sketch!, and have seen to what you’ve achieved on your first figure, this undoubtedly will be a blast! can’t wait till it colored. if i may give a 2-cents, be careful when doin her neck, look carefully where and how their lines curves to avoid “thick-neck” looks (i’ve done my part on lots of hours of paint and re-painting, for the very mistakes).

pushav: sweet, looks like you’ve got all the proportion right and i like your daring take with diff color. if i may suggest perhaps to fill in your bg. while using black will give us most contrast, it doesnt’t help on creating enviromental effects toward the figure, esp when you’re doing a painting approach, where skin colors are direct dependant to their enviromental colors (eg source of lights), also your bg will help you picking your value range (from your darkest to highlights) moreover, it also will give you more color blending opportunities to create those bridge and “subtle” values. You might also want to read “donseeg” tips on his way to paint bg and main fig simultanously in class 01, very informative imho.

artic 1: thanks, and wow that looks amazing! love your use of colors, and contrasts quality in it. my 2-cents if you don’t mind, her head proportion looks a lil’bit to big to the rest of the body, and her left foot (the one in behind) its shape -esp the big toe- looks off a lil bit. but off-course they don’t really effect the overall quality of the pic. great job again.

Llynna: wow it all comes up very nicely, keep updating. it’s always a good thing to make up your mind about your bg first, like you did here, as the rest will follow quite smoothly.

bsmith: hey nice start man. keep doing it is the key and welcome to the class.

dbclemons 1: cool stuff, the colors look wonderful to me. be sure to keep updating.

Spirit Dreamer: inspiring stuffs as always. this’s just my personal taste i guess, but i really love your process till step 4, but the last looks a-lil overburnt to me. then again maybe it’s because the misty bg and you hasn’t started on detailing yet. keep updating please.

SevenMars: whoa great stuff, totally awesome! my 2-cents, if you don’t mind, is to study her neck’s line, where they curves etc, so to make it more connected with the whole body. oh and welcome!!

Lemog: thanks. and great idea w/ do it in b/w, looks like you’re getting mastery over values in light-speed. wow.

rebeccak: aww they’re not for sale? just so you know, their price have risen quite a lot since the last bid (muahaha!). and great progress! the values are really coming up nicely, and everything’s beginning to look more solid. you really are know what you’re doing! more please!

zhuzhu: i dunno anyone who could do wc like that, just amazing man! there’s no denial on your artistic values! my only crit, if u don’t mind, is to be careful w/ her stomach shape and that area in general. in the ref, that area’s heavily covered with watermarks, which can be quite misleading the values. and more please!

PSR: great work! everythings look nice to me, my suggestion, if you don mind, is to smooth the values-swith on her right foot (angkle-toes). can’t wait your taking on the 2nd figure.

artic 2: whoa top-notch work!. great to see the way you develop your painting, very effective and carefully planned from the sketch. and the result is simply great. my only crit, if u don’t mind, (for pic 1 - ref figure#2) is to be careful with the neck area esp their lines and curves (i sounded like a broken recorder) as it will determined how it’s connected w/ the whole body.

AndyDay: your image doesn’t load for me. must be my stupid server actin up again. welcome by the way.

dbclemons 2: wow you paint fast! and the result’s much better than expected, and i thought that’s impossible. good decision to add more contrast it’s really working on bring those colors to life.

samanthie: thanks, and hey great result! love your soft-rendering style, and esp great rendering to the face.

wheoew, hopefully don’t miss nobody. this thread is surely moving way too fast!
anyway, i think i have enough w/ mine as it took longer than expected. not exactly satisfied yet, but just run-out energy and perception r now. however if anyone have any pointers please do shoot them out, cause i certainly want to improve.

#298

Here’s mine. HB pencil drawing. 1 hour.

#299

b2dermawan- Yep over 20 pages. well I set mine to veiw like 50 posts per page. So that means I have 6 pages. Lol. Pretty soon people will find out that Rebecca makes the hottest pages (Oh this is going to help you ego Becca:thumbsup: Smooth Compliment I know.:)) Thanks for the tips. You picture is nice. One crit is that you should try to define the background a little more. I will try to post an update soon. I got side track on working on my comic concept. Character designing is fun.

dbclemons-I’m felling that look of your painting.

zhuzhu-Nice work.

Arctis-Nice wip.

Spiritdreamer-I want to see your stuff finished. (I know I never finish my own work here. Lol. I am alsways working on something new.)

To all of thoose I’ve missed-KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!:bounce:

oh no, whats this? I am expanding on the foot?!.. run for your lives…jk. Anyways, this is a quick lay in…I figured I’d post before this got any further, so you can pick apart all my anatomical issues. Plus black and white is driving me crazy…so…i think i’m going to switch back to color…i don’t know, things just seem clearer to me that way. anyways thanks for all your comments/suggestions already.
