Now OPEN!!! Open Figure Drawing Workshop with Hong Ly and Rebecca Kimmel 002

#261

Hello. I’m relatively new to this forum, and to CG art in general. I’ve recently acquired a graphics tablet, so I’m still in the process of learning how to use these tools. I’m more of a traditional painter. My preferred medium is acrylics, and subject matter is figurative (of course). I’m trying to refine my CG skills (and my skills in general), and it looks like this forum is a great community to do that in.

I used a Graphire 3 tablet and PS7 for this piece. Time spent: about a week of evenings.

I am planning to refine some of the less-detailed areas, including her right foot and her ear. I tried to challenge myself with this painting to create believable flesh tones, as I generally paint with a very sparse pallette.

Llynna -> Thanks to add high res, very praticle to feel the progress… finally, I think that’s a good thing you change for color version, that will be in total adequacy with the subject and your interpretation. :bounce:

Bsmith -> Welcome here too… I hope to see more of your drawing here… do you planed to finish this one with a color numerical version ?

dbclemons -> good oil painting approach… as Rebecca, I’m a little surprise by your support to paint… I had never tested this technique. The proportions of the body seem very correct. I’m rather curious to see the result for the background, because for the moment, the contrast of tone is very strong.

Spirit Dreamer -> I like much your steps of research, it’s certainly a very good thing. I would have perhaps tried to do it upstream. Generally, I work environment, mood and colorimetry at the end, but never or seldom during the realization. The #5 appear very hard… between #3 and #4 allows a good relationship between detail and luminous originality.

Samanthie -> the projection is always also soft, and certainly will take us along in the lymbes. Take care to the contrast of aspect between the face very well defined and the body which is much more vaporous, but I know that it’s not finished yet, then I would await the continuation.

SevenMars -> I’m speechless JC… whaouw… apart from certain parts which are a little too marked, as under the coasts, interior of the left arm, the carotid or the forced shapes of the left leg, and a difference of size between the nipples, it’s really brilliant. I’m deafened by your style and your already great control of the tablet. I’m in admiration of the face and the hair. It’s already very great art. :arteest: :arteest: :arteest: :arteest: :arteest:

@SevenMars,

Welcome to the forum! Fantastic work!! As Lemog says, we are all drooling over the beauty of this piece! I would love it if you would post some of your traditional work in the appropriate threads here on the Anatomy Forum…that would be great!! Thanks for posting your work, it’s great to have you here!

Cheers!

Rebeccak -> now, foot appears a little bit very dark, another effect of the gangrene… I don’t know if it’s due to the background, but the left leg appear very flat now… or my old eyes ?
The good thing to be retained, it’s that you work on your image, it’s essential !

Well, yesterday I play a little with my previous picture, and I do some test… I just want to display this one, I like it, simple but attractive (for me… :scream: ), and terribly graphic…

#266

Um I might try to do a digital painting, but I have really no experience with digital art yet, but I do plan on getting good at it. Right now I’m so busy with work and school stuff I don’t have the time to draw very much.

zhuzhu,

Can only take a 2 second look at your piece, but it’s great to see you back in full force, and it’s neat to see you working in a traditional medium as well! I’d say you had a lot of catching up to do, but since I am apparently the world’s slowest painter, I am sure you will have no problem, lol!!! :scream:

Bsmith,

Practice here, get good, bring your friends, cheers!

Wow, brilliant to see the progress of everyone’s work. And to see so many more joining in.

Really wonderful work going on here.

Arctis, hat off to you, both poses done already and amazing quality.

Andyonahill, Very refreshing and dynamic, I’m looking forward to seeing more updates to this.

There’s just too many new works to comment on all, but welcome to all who have joined in.

I’ve had a chance to update my effort today. Worked on the near leg and foot, a little on the face and the background. I’ve also tried my hand at some blending with the Smudge Tool. I can’t bring myself to make it completely smooth though.

Unless something seems completely offensive, I don’t think I’ll do any more to this, it must be nearly time for the next poses. I’ve learned a real lot taking part in this, many thanks.

PSR,

Can’t do more than take a quick peek at your work (but I can’t resist at least looking ;)), but from what I can tell, your work looks really solid! I would say that her thigh looks a bit thicker than the model’s, but of course I encourage artistic license, and we all see and interpret the same things differently, so it really doesn’t bother me much. Will do a better crit later, in the meantime, I hope others will jump in here to pick up the slack!

Thank you for your participation and for posting this, and I really hope you will be joining us for OFDW 003, to be starting Sunday or Monday!

Cheers!

Rebecca-Her knee on her left leg (the leg furthest away from the viewer) looks funny. Here shin sticks out further than her knee. Keep up the good work.

#274

pushav,

Will bear in mind!

zhuzhu -> I’ve just discover 2 days ago you “super dollfie”… and I fall in the charm of your art… with this new drawing, in watercolor… you confirm your talent.

It’s really very pleasant to see, and the watercolour is really well used, beautiful control.

Many touches of different colors to arrive at a beautiful coherence, very nervous, and very controlled, the bet are gained, very impressive.

PSR -> it’s your choice, you can stop now… I regret a little, that according certain parts of the picture, the level of detail is lttle different, it’s only a personal taste I think.

But nevertheless, we have a beautiful coloremetric unity which makes a work really pleasant to be see, which is most important.
