Noob UV Stretching Problem

#1

Just a quick question on corner stretching. I’m trying to texture this properly and am having an issue. I’ve got the UV’s laid out correctly, I think, but I get all kinds of stretching in the corners and weird surface stretching as well. I did an auto project and stitched everything back together. I’m using Maya 2010.

You don’t need to stitch everything together. For this soft of model sometimes it’s better to keep them separate so the smaller sides’ UV remain rectangular instead of trapezoid

Even if my intention is to take this into Unity or UDK?

No problem with UDK. Think about character for example. It’s impossible to stitch character UV together. Besides, it’s more important to try to make the best use of your UV space. In your case there are a lot of wasted space.

I have no experience with Unity but I guess it should be ok too.

Awesome man. Thanks so much for the answers. This has been a somewhat confusing topic for me for quite some time. Thanks Again!!!

If you will be painting on the object itself, your UV map is not a problem. If you will be painting on the UV map, you’ll have to paint in the direction/slope of the angled lines for some faces. That is tricky to do.
