nhm ork in progress

#1

after seeing all of the great work that has come forward for the competition. I have been inspired to try and create my own matte painting based off of the nhm shot. But I’m really not that good of a matte painter yet so I’m taking my time, and trying to go through all the right steps. but here is the original shot, and here is my clean plate. I didn’t spen to much time on the right side becouse i’m going to be covering it up.

here is the clean plate. I hope to be able to finish the set extension by tonight. So I can start the real matte painting tommorow.

Hey christopher,

Great start , but I would spend a bit more time cleaning up your plate image. One thing a company would want to see is how well you can clean a plate so it would be good for you to spend a little more time on that. Plus its a great learning experience.

If you havent already tried out the clone stamp tool in photoshop , use that, it can be your best friend if you learn how to use it right. For the floor I would suggest you do it from scratch. Create that on a flate plain and then take it into your master file and put that into perspective. Then add all your bounce light and reflection. Just pay close attention to the floor that was already there and see how all your light/bounce/reflection plays off it surroundings and try to reproduce it.

Cheers!

not an expert, but i’d most likely ignore the complete reconstruction of the scene as it will all most likely get covered anyway

mate, any chance you give me the plate link? I was looking forward to trying to work with that one, but cant seem to find it -.-’

cheerz, and gl with future work on this one

Nice start. Drawing in perspective lines should help.

I look forward to the end result.

I’m no mattepainter but decided to have a go at this one myself a while ago but have picked it up and put it down due to other commitments. I’ve got as far as the starting the paint so far. I’m hoping to post it when I’ve made some reasonable progress.

I’ve uploaded the original files here if anyone else fancies a go.
