nHair follicle dynamics override ramps non-functional

#1

Hi,

I just logged this as a bug, but also want to make it known here.

Dynamics Overrides ramps in the follicle shape node are not functioning for me. Clump Width Scale and Stiffness Scale are not working per follicle. I’ve enabled Override Dynamics. Hair clumps immediately change shape (presumably to some default values) but the ramps don’t work at all.

Yes that is a known issue. Currently the follicle overrides for lengthFlex, damp, stiffness, and attractionScale only work when useNucleusSolver is OFF(some of these attributes don’t even exist on the nucleus solver). The render overrides do work however. Also the ClumpWidthScale ramp works, but there is an update problem… if you edit the clumpWidthMult it will trigger an update, or you could save and reload the scene. As well follicle sampleDensity works, but you currently need to save and reload he scene to see the effect of changing it( when useNucleus is on).

Thank you for your kind assistance, Duncan

Also, while I have your attention, it would be really great to have a Sub Segment override per follicle. If I want to do something like braids that are longer than the rest of the hair, it seems like the only practical way to do it is with a separate hairSystem. Sub Segments override would mean I could do everything in one hairSystem, with less detail on the short clumps and more on the braids.

Thanks,

Aaron

You could sort of do this by re-sampling just those curves, but then the dynamics would also be different. By the way in general you want to keep the segment length constant so short hairs should be created by deleting segments, as opposed to scaling down the follicle or hair curve.
