nHair and Transform Constraint 1 CV?

#1

Follwing the manual. Trying to set up a transform constraint on nHair. I am sure the solution is simple. I think I am missing something.

First thing I do is select the start curves.

Then covert to Start Curve End Cvs.

Then use the arrow key to move the selection up and apply the Transform Constraint.

But it only assigns one CV to the constraint.

And I have tried all manor of options including selecting the current position curves (pfx) and converting those basically all curves selected at that point, I have tried creating and selecting the rest curves. Everything gives the same result of one CV assigned to the constraint. As far as I can tell I have followed the manual to the letter but clearly I am missing something else.

OK I am having the same issue with the Component to Component Constraint. It does not even constraint to a CV I selected. Just a random CV in the middle.

Could anyone help with this?

I am at a loss. What am I doing wrong?

Following the manual those steps do not work.

i was having the same issues but just tried creating output curves ( from the nhair menu)
and constraining those curves end cvs ( NOT the start curves ) .

now it works!

let me know if this helps !

(edit ) if you want to select the end cv’s on the output curves use /edit curves/ selection/select last cv on curve

( the old way of selecting the end points wont work because you dont want to select the START curves any more at all )

Beautiful.

OK that now makes the doc’s instructions make perfect sense. However there is conflicting information in the instructions that show up in two places.

So consolidating that information and removing the conflicting/confusing steps here is what I have that works:

  1. Go to Show and turn off Strokes.

1a) Optional - filter selection to only curves

  1. Select the Output Curves (created by selecting the hairSytem node and then nHair/Add Output Curves to Hair - if you had not created them when you first created the hair)

  2. Select nHair/Display/Current Position

  3. Select nHair/Convert Selection… To Start Curve End CVs

  4. Walk the CVs up the curves to the position you want with the arrow keys.

  5. Follow the steps to create constraints (ie shift select components on an object etc)

  6. Go to nConsrtaint and select the one you want.

  7. Go to Show and turn back on Strokes.

That works.

It is a beautiful thing:

Component to Component on a Torus.
