NewWIP-ModelMachine

Hey list, (wip wip wippy wip wip wip)
I’ve had this stuff sitting around for a while and put a few minutes here there towards it and wanted to post.
I’m compositing hash characters with backgrounds in ElectricImage. This is really excersing my compositing knowledge, not so much in this image yet. But the final will be an animation of McKnuckles getting carved into a model from a block of clay. The carving will be done by light rays that eminate from behind the rotoscopes, along with particals shooting all over the place. That’s gonna be the fun part, once I set it up to have the light rays from the other app, intersect with the rotos movie of mcknuckles from AM.
Im also using material effectors to simulate the model being made from the clay.

Very cool idea. I can’t wait to see it animated (you are going to show us the animation, right?:)).

Hi Hookflash, thanks for the post.
I am going to show the finished animation… once it’s finished. No telling when that would bethough, I only get a few minutes here and there to work on my personal stuff.
Again, thanks for the post…

Had some time to work on the image.
I added some light rays and particles to the project.
The Clay and Legs of other character are from Hash. Eveything else is in EI, with the hash elements composited with the alpha maps.

There are a few things I want to add, like I want the underling model to be bright white and slowly change over to the normal model colors so it kinda looks like it was cooling off.
Thanks

Hi Forum, here is a movie test I made with the model machine.
Characters from hash
backgrounds and particles from EI

Very cool:thumbsup: So, how did you composite it all together? What’s your impression of EI?

That’s turned out really nice.
I especially like the realistic jolt the machine makes after it’s finished carving.
Has the lump of clay just landed on the platform and that’s why it’s bouncing up and down?

Hey HookFlash, thanks for the email… you’ve been following this thread from the begining! Thanks.
I composited the images by using the same camera data in EI that I had in hash. To do this, I had to write a little math utility that would change the values so that the world coordinates would match up. The diference between EI and hash’s world coordinates is the Z axis. They are reveresd. So once the math was done, compositing was pretty easy. I just had to manually render the layers… meaning in order to get the proper alpha channel I had to render all camera blocking geomtry pure white and later apply it to the alpha channel of the appropriate color rotoscope. Shadow buffers from hash were pretty straight forward. Shadow object only feature.
However there is a drawback… It is impossible to line the images up perfectly in all angles… sometimes if the camera moves to extremes the objects are just slightly off… Either EI or hash has a defective camera lense.
Being that EI has many motion pictures under it’s belf, I feel that hash’s camera is suspect.
So, my feelings on EI… it’s a great program. It rocks. But it also lacks. It lacks many ofthe things we take for granted in Hash. Such as the great character tools. But EI is taking steps to add character tools and so far they are pretty good. No dynamics as of yet.
Which brings me to the point of allthis… combining the best of both apps to get the most of them. At least that s the goal.
Thanks for the reply

Pequod, thanks for the email! You are right on the money! The clay just landed on the platform and was going through some recoil. The machine’s jolt on the end is the result of the network renderer crashing due to the particle system. It actually doesn’t make a jolt that large at the top, but I put one in at the bottom, I just never got back to finishing the render yet!!!
Thanks for the reply
