NewTek CORE discussion and information

#641

If you actually look into it… you would see that there IS a subscription service, but unlike ALL OF THE OTHERS… you can still skip versions and buy the upgrade at the regular upgrade price. You don’t HAVE to have a subscription. If you skip version 10, 11 and 12 and want to get in on 13, it will cost you the same as if you had bought all of the those other versions and THEN upgraded to 13. Do ANY of the other companies do business like that?

Subscription is why I opted out of Fusion5 - because I would have had to pay nearly $1k to upgrade from version 4 to version 5 and heaven forbid if I skipped a version and didn’t have a subscription. Unfortunately this is the way of 3D programs. Fortunately… Newtek is at least giving users a BETTER choice than the alternatives.

And consdiering all of the other software alternatives are more expensive (except of course Blender and trueSpace)… I’ll stick with LW.

#642

Surely you mean corporate greed leads to subscription services?

Wuv

#643

I guess it could go either way… The moment they institute a subscription service they realize they only have to change the number to make it seem like progress has been made. But maybe that was their plan all along… (scary music plays)

One could argue that the steady stream of revenue from subscription services will allow further software developments but… at the same time one can also argue that they won’t bother developing the software at all… They’ll say, “Hey the money is coming to us anyways whether we make changes to the software or not.” So we’re going to fire off the entire staff and hire Joe Bob intern to patch up the software. The only reason NT can’t do this is because they are behind AD.

#644

Like a wise man said: “Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”

#645

I’m a go with Veehoy on this one

I wouldn’t mind some more info from NT though…

#646

Indeed,
Seems, as usual, people can’t see past their own need to make “smart” remarks.
Like the circle to a cube, it’s called a mouse gesture, ever thought that what he had there was a command to interpret that action as ‘make cube’?

I guess, for some reason, the need to snipe at Lightwave and Newtek is almost an addiction to some. Judging by the comment about now wanting Maxon to go the subscription route, I can only presume Lightwave isn’t Buckets main app of choice.

As for Newtek being behind AD, well, DUH, who isn’t? AD own now several of the major apps (can ya say ‘monopoly’), I’m sure Newtek would kill for the sort of budget AD throw around.

#647

The smart remarks come from the Rosie O’Donnells of the 3d forums who troll for attention by posting nothing of actual merit.

#648

Ya lost me there, that must mean something over the pond I guess.

#649

Tama,
you like to insult people dont you? Every time I see your name on a post there is an insult following it. I see the LW section of this forum is just like NTs forum. Very sad!

Did bucket personaly insult you somewhere?

I guess, for some reason, the need to snipe at Lightwave and Newtek is almost an addiction to some

That is NTs doing.

#650

please can we try to refrain from turning this thread into something else

other than discussions on newtek CORE…

#651

Has any info been given in regards to a render region in viewport? That is something I would like to see in core without having to code it myself.

also is there going to be some kinda viper replacement?

#652

nope, i don’t think so…

#653

Rosie O’Donnell is a tv celeb here in the states whose forte is making insane remarks to get
attention, basically a celebrity troll with no talent other than the proclivity to spew nonsense and stir the pot.

(Cue birds singing - harmonious music) I remember when in a bygone era long ago when CGTalk’s Lightwave forum was a place of ideas, solutions, helpful links/tutorials - and then unrestrained **** set in (Cue road kill with tire tread running through middle).

NewTek most definitely sat on their laurels with Lightwave after a solid run in the mid 90s. I know some critical supporters of that time that have turned against LW…with a passion. I can understand some views and the past couple of years (before 9) where very freakin tough to counter detrators…

With that said, here we are at a huge transitionary point in Lightwaves history. A complete freakin rewrite. Doesnt that message hit home to even the most jaded ex-LW user? I think it does, which is why its key to pick up on other points NewTek policy. Like subscription. All it takes is a read on NTs site to see its not like Autodesks - at all.

For some its “too little too late” or “Hell hath no fury like a LW user scourned” is the honor badge or credo and without resolution. No amount of good news will ever bridge the gap of discontent. Move on…

Well if NT show some innovation and put out something solid and inovative that rivals the big 3, I think even the most scorned will come running back. The ball is in NTs court… people use the best tool for the job and it this point LW falls short for a lot of work out there. Not that the work cant be done in LW, but why hassle with work arounds and half features?

My biggest concern is the time frame that has been stated compared to what has been shown thus far. I see much that has to be done in a very little amount of time.

NT will do themselves no good by pre selling yet another release, and having it show up a year later then they advertised when they pre sold it!!! BAD MONEY NT. Please dont let this happen again!

Say no more…have a little faith… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuStsFW4EmQ

#657

To think I clicked on that link thinking it was a video about CORE… Thanks for that ever informative tidbit.

#658

Lightwave RULEZ! and so do Newtek! just face it! :stuck_out_tongue:

after all, they are the only ones with big enough balls not to sell out to the ones we shall not name! ( touch wood )

C4D will be next in line IMHO

#659

I agree. I’ve enjoyed LW for many years, and I have a lot of respect for NT. They seem like a company that cares about it’s application as well as its users.

#660

Do you think AD has any desire to buy Lightwave?
Maybe after core is complete…but what would they gain now?

Nobody knows for sure…NT CEO may be wishing he had a product AD wanted!
