yep, i’ve heard LW 64bit is great when it comes to large scenes though,
i have yet to test this myself, still running 32 at the moment.
try 64 bit if you can, i’ve heard good things about it,…

I am on 64 bit…
To be completly acurate… it wasnt the poly count. it was trying to control so many polys morphs with a image sequence that was choking LW. Once I was happy with the animation I was able to bake out the mdds and LW was fine then.

I will say… LW 9.6 64bit is a monster, and I posted this in another forum too…
9.6 rendered a 15 mill polly scene with 182 ies lights one dpont custom light and a dpont infinate light, 3 bounce fg, with lots of reflection/refraction at 800/600pix in just under 35 min…
I was very shocked that it even rendered the 15 mil… let alone the 184 lights, and gi

actually, just found that MDD sort of can be used in HDinstance. (haven’t tried)

Thats great…
One other one is the node componds, and abilty to reveal what ins and outs are necessary. Like houdini, and ice too I believe… But I am pretty sure NT dev would think of that on their own.

Yeah, I was going to buy 2.0 for the project but it wouldnt have helped, cause it doesnt allow you to use an image sequence to control the animation (like dps mdd node) I needed to be able to use a tuxture to control the animation…texture at 0 = mmd at 0, texture at 1= mdd at end.

If this was possible with hd2.0 I would have bought it…

I cant get to NTs forum till I go to my brothers later today, but it is posible… maybe not with mdds. I dont care if its mdds or some other saved motion like hdI. If hd instence can do it… its posible.

man I work in Flash and actionscripting everyday…if you can control interface via Flash

yes, sort of,

basically, in short, in HDinstance it works, it is only partly true instancing, but fyffe tested it using 1 billion animated elfes, (using a HDM file, not MDD) so it surely works.

however, someone at the XSI forum pointed out that it might be a problem if the animation loop was long, i mentioned this, but didn’t get an answer.

anyways, 1 billion animated characters is incredible :slight_smile:
(it should be able to run even more instances, who knows what the limit is,…)

as far as the NT team doing this for Lightwave, I have no idea how tricky it would be.

Yes, I saw the zillion elves…That is ridiculous!
In most cases the loop wouldnt need be that long anyway.
I hope it is possible cause it would give much power with a fairly simple workflow… I guess we will see.

I’m really excited about the draw a circle and it makes a cube feature. It’s good to know they only spent a few hours working on that. I’m also really excited about the potential torus plugin. I wonder when they are going to show layout? I take it the new version of lightwave will be released when Newtek’s spaceship lands on earth. At least they caught up with the cheezy licensing practices of AD. Seriously now, none of us like subscription services because the new versions are sometimes not worth it. Before AD bought Alias, some studios stopped upgrading their maya licenses. Why upgrade to 8 if 7 does everything you want. I hope Maxon doesn’t follow suit. Such subscription services leads to corporate greed.
