if you click on newtek in the ustream site you’ll see under recent activity that they have been trying to get it going…they broadcast alicia keys 15 minutes ago, and the CORE video twice in the last 10 minutes
NewTek CORE discussion and information
I feel quite sorry for them, to be honest. The one time in recent memory they got the big headlines with a great JJ Abrams-style marketing campaign… and their server crashes.
Of course, I expected it would. They really should have gone the extra mile and set up the reveal to be streamed from somewhere with fat pipes (not just UStream - they were streaming from their own network backbone at newtek.com) and whose servers could handle the strain.
Here’s the real problem - they’re still trying to do this with the GlobeCaster thingy, which is based on ex-Play technology.
The few surviving members of Play still know the backdoor to bring the whole system down at just the right moment…
Kiki? You out there at a terminal somewhere? (wait, doesn’t she work for NT again?)
how long are u guys going to wait for this one…moment… to pass
i’m thinking till 11pm CET
All they need is a portable laptop with a single connection to the internet and a webcamera to ustream.
Maybe when the live stream starts we’ll see shaky video with a giant monster attacking the poor folks at Newtek.
somebody HAS got to be getting a red-a$$ over at NT. Their whole freaking internet presence has gone poof right at the end of the countdown!
I can’t believe they didn’t stress-test it first - or have at least a plan B (although, in hindsight, this was a pretty crap plan A in the first place).
Well, they got my attention again- so that bit worked well. But, really, this is just so Newtek it’s actualy funny- which is probably not the intended effect.
Looks like NewTek is trying to remedy the problem… they’ve updated the UStream comments.
