Hello, I’m trying to understand Combustion here so please excuse me if this is a silly question. Is there anyway I can feed a mask into any filter to limit it’s effect? Something like compound blur but for everything? Coming from Shake I assumed this is the easiest thing in the world but I just can’t figure it out … Help!!
Thanks,
jwm

What exactly do you mean with “mask” and especially with “limit”? If you want to drive one parameter of an effect with a greyscale image, I’d say there is no general way, if any.
If you just want to mask out affected areas, you could either use the “selections” which limit all the effects applied “above” the selection. Or just go the hard way by duplicating layers and apply your matte.

I want to apply a set of filters but only on the outer regions of the image. The further stuff gets to the middle the more “unfiltered” it should be. In Shake you can simply plug an alpha channel into a filter and that’s it. Isn’t there anything like that in Combustion?

As I said, use the “elliptical selection” or “draw selection” operator and draw a circle or rectangle, check the invert option. Above that, apply your effect.
