Can I get a few recommendations on decent beginner books for Shake? Thanks!
Newbie training
If you are looking for training, the Gnomon Workshop just released 5 or so discs on Shake. The are all very good.
There is only 1 shake book, the one from Peachpit press.

But also general books that are good for concepts of compositing:
The Art and Science of Digital Compositing

Robotonic is right the shake dvds are good but you would need them all.
All depends on your technical skill and exposer to other comp apps.
Get them all if you havnt used another comp app.
Check out CMI studios as well, they have some shake dvd sets as well.
I am looking at getting them as well

Thanks,
I work with AE, FCP and Premiere all of the time. I know Shake is pretty complex. I’ll look into those DVDs. I’m definately picking up the Peachpit Press book. By the way, I just picked up the Trish and Chris Meyer book. I’ve been using AE for years but it stil had some great tips.
Don’t take CMI dvds on shake (at least first 3) - they are really bad, in my opinion. A lot of times lector doesn’t even know what he’s showing - makes everything inappropriate for a pretty long time and then just says ah, ok, it should work (like macro section on the 3rd dvd).
The peachpit press book is great and it comes with a DVD full of content to play around with after the tutorials are done.
Thanks Josh,
Beaker mentioned the same book. Good to know that it comes with DVDs. I’m going to pick up my new G5 workstation now so I’ll be getting that book this week.
read the shake manual from start to end, its the best manual i have ever read, even after years of using shake, I sometimes go back and find gems of compositing information.
its certainly more information than a you will need to know for a long time
Yea, most of the stuff in the shake peachpit press book is all covered in the tuts that come with shake. No idea why people don’t go there first.
