newbie questions...please help.

Hi All,

I’ve just started using blender and I have a couple of questions that need answering to help me on my way…

Firstly, what is locator or null object called in blender and how do I create one?

Secondly I would like to know how to change the texture resolution that is displayed in my 3d view. Right now (with default settings) my textures are displaying at very low resolution and appear blurred.

And lastly…

When I change my draw type (shaded, wireframe etc) to textured, my object is displayed as a flat colour even though it has a texture assigned to it. Does anyone know what I need to do to get my object to display properly.

These are probably really simple things but I would really appreciate it if anyone could steer me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance,

Simon

A locator is called Empty.
add with: 3d View > Add Menu (shift-a)

the maximum texture resolution for 3d View is in the system tab of the prefernces (ctrl-alt-u, or file > pref). it is set on off by default. mybe you can try disabling mipmapping just above.

The textured view mode has some submodes which you can choose in the 3d View properties panel (hotkey: n) in the display tab. It is on Multitexture by default. (consult Wiki on modes)
If you have the texture assigned to the uvTexture in the image editor you can alternatively view the texture in solid drawing mode when activating <Texture Solid> just below the Multitexture drop down.

If you want to see your model with the most appropriate shading according to its material GLSL is your best bet. (Be aware that not all texture mapping types are supported. Best is to use UVs all the way.)
