This is new work i did. I was inspired by movies “I am legend”, “28 days later”, and game “left 4 dead”.

hey mate;
had a look at the wip over at cgtantra and I have to say that I thought they were great! I kinda find the sub-compositions almost more appealing than the big thing! Quite inspiring I have to say.
Although I also like the final result I think you lost a bit too much of the richness in values and colors of earlier versions. It’s all really toned down and dark (almost a bit mushy).
Having said that: The WIPs were great. They show that you did a really good job along the way; just went a bit overboard on the finish line
Keep it up!

Finally someone answered my tread.
Thanks for good critic, i needed one, because i invested many hours in it and i really wanted to hear what people from this forum think(for now just you,and that is enough).
You are maybe right that final version is little mushy but i was chasing “haunted” fell(subject of challenge), but yet again, i wanted to avoid cliche with full moon and allot of mist etc.
So i did second version(the one that is posted in “final” section) where i’ve changed sky, added little bluish color in shadow area and give it more “positive” feel.

Hope you like this one better
M
… that i’ve enjoy working on.

and, just for fun, i did poster for movie(if someone made one)

Thanks for your time

nice one, I’m glad you got rid of the luminous signs , there should be not sign of electricity
everything is cool I love the detail I think you are missing one important element here, if you have a big rain and a part light sky, you need some water on the street surface and that water need to reflect the bright from the sky ,make it look wet, that will help you to define some of the shapes or depth, you could use a mirror image and play with some displacement and painting noise mask
you can play with glossy reflection for wet surfaces and sharper reflection for water surface like in a puddle both elements will make it more believable
here are some examples of what I mean:

Thanks for advice James, i knew that it needed to be done, but i didn’t want too loose details on street.
But i could try again.

Small update
I’ve removed rain(and some additional layers).
Now details are more visible, and color variations are better

M
Oh snap! what happened that city?!
Hey, great, great image here! Really, just a visual treat. This last image especially. I think you got the tone and contrast right at the sweet spot. If this was for an actual film, the CG department would want to put the rain in themselves anyway.
One small crit that stands out to me (bare in mind that I’m not a matte painter) is the rails running down the middle of the street. They seem to be way to wide for actual commuter train/light-rail when compared to the scale of the cars. I think they are just a little bit wider then a car in real-life (as they have to fit on the roads with them)… Now that I look at it agin… It may be that the cars are at the wrong scale… Not sure about that.
Again, amazing image! Thanks.
Thanks for comment, and you noticed that well, you are right. I was so busy with details and other stuff that i missed that.
M
Thats awesome mate!
I like it very much, the idea and the color.
The image with the rain i liked more than without it.
Without the rain it looks to clean, even if it shows a destroyed city.
The detailshots are great!
