New to mudbox

#1

Hey,

I am a 3ds max user and want to get into mudbox for more defined high poly models. I was a good modeler in max but trying to sculpt is soo difference. I was just wondering if you guys have any tips in mudbox you could give me. I have many book on zbrush and even dvd tutorials, but nothing much on mudbox, even thought the theory is the same I find sculpting a little strange at the minute :)…

Any tips would be great as im sure as i get into it i’ll be posting a lot…

Thanks

Im also going to get some clay or something to that effect as someone on another fourm says it helps …

www.MudboxHub.com

Theres the complete quickstart series there and over at the area there’s some of the ‘Mudbox 2009:From the Ground Up’ series…(Which soon will be added to MudboxHub.com.)

But yes, same bloke, (although I have nothing to do with kurv anymore, and dont even get paid for any sales on my dvd’s) and same accent. Just older and with a far better microphone lol.

PS Try kids playdough… cheap comes in nice dayglow colours and useful to keep in your pocket.

Ah hey Wayne,

Loved your zbrush tutorials, very down to earth after hearing the patronising 3d buzz guys :)… I shall check out the hub site and as soon as the mudbox stuff comes out im on it.

Meanwhile, any tips on where to start when sculpting - excuse my noobishness, i went to university so naturally don’t know much lol…

Start with your very large shapes / forms at lower levels and increase these in levels of detail as you step up. Although I do break the rules quite often now and sculpt at medium to high res… as I’m used to it by now. Always have reference handy for a proper sculpt thats not a sketch and read lots of anatomy books until your ears bleed.

Try not to jump straight in using very low res base meshes until you’ve got used to things a bit 1st. Hope that helps…glad you liked the dvd’s…I did nearly get lynched after doing them…but thats another story for another day lol.
Hope that helps a little.
