Great work, kind of reminds me of SCUD the Disposable Assassin
NEW PIN-UP: POPBOT: Cornell and Kitty
simply amazing… reminds me of a comic called Disposable assassin… i think thats waht the name was…
What a great image, actually made me laugh out loud. There’s a great sense of repressed comedy in it. Kudos.
That would be “Kill Joy” I believe.
And the image- 168 hrs? GOOD JOB. That’s fast when you consider all those reflections from the floor and the hoses in the bot and possibly his armour and gun… the stairs… the door?
Hi, i absolutley love the picture (what is v11?? Cinema 4D?)
1 think i have noticed that is odd - the cat and stairs are being reflected in a big way in the floor. However the robots feet are barely reflected at all? Just wondered why?!
But as i said - great picture.
reckon it looks great, the only thing that annoyed me is the strength of the cats reflection. Tiny crit as part of a great looking piece. Would make a very nice print I think.
Cheers,
Nathan
it lack a bit of twin mexicantrannies, but its working, and for those who dont know the comics, the cat is definitly an He…
really would like to toy with your model, freebie maybe?
Great looking piece! I love everything but I do have to crit some of it…so bare with me.
First, is the shadow on the cats tail. ( I am guessing its a shadow) it looks weird. Almost like it has a certain level of transparency all of a sudden and you are seeing the window behind it…or something…anyways, if you were to brighten up that tail in post I think it would help alot.
also, 168 hour render? are you mad man! LOL. j/k. seriously though, it looks wonderful, but I think a few short cuts could have given you the same or better final results.
I do love the color choice and the composition is superb. I also love how you made his guts spilling out a bit, It gives me the feeling that he had just engaged in a bit of melee combat before he chased his enemy down the stairs and around the corner. it gives him a certain amount of Vunerability that I have not seen much of with robots before. Not to familar with the comic, but I love what I am seeing here.

Really nice image!!, I like the robot a lot specially the face (so simple but works so well).
I would had made the cat a bit bigger, as I think it gets somehow lost in the picture, beeing in the middle of the big robot and the stirs, which also draw our attention towards them.
Good work.

I love the color combinations in this piece the color of the robot and the red backdrop really strengthens this image. And i also love the attention to detail the composition is very good as well. Great job!! And Ephesus is right on with his statement in regards to the vulnerability fo the robot, it makes things that much more interesting.
Hmm, nice job. I don’t think the reflection is off on the cat. I just think it’s so big/strong and the cat is so out of the picture that the reflection is more noticible than the cat itself. However with a full size copy of this render, the cat might be more noticible and in focus.
Nice work and congrats on the front page plug
I love the texture of the image! It has a certain 2D feel to it. Is there anything special you did to get that result? Or is it more a result of the renderer?
I also totally dig the composition and feel of the subject matter as well.
Very cool stuff!
I’m glad this finally got frontpage recognition… All the hard work ya put into this thing, (plus that insane render time), absolutely wowed me when I first saw this…
A:M is sometimes dismissed as ‘lo-tech’ and so I love it when someone absolutely pulls an amazin’ image outta it.
Congrats on the front-pagage.

Very cool. It just goes to show that it’s not the tool but the talent that counts.
That’s real “Look at me CG”. Deserved front page work. ![]()
I hate to be harsh and maybe I’m completely out of sync with what’s cool or deserving of high praise, but in my opinion, this isn’t really front page stuff. Not trying to be harsh or anything, but I don’t really see how this stands out from some of the other stuff going around the crit forums. I have read the Popbot stuff, Automatik Kafka and have the Uno Fanta Series. Wood’s stuff is much more darker, and dirtier. this render is clean and neat. there is some wear in the scene, but its really minimal. Also there are lots hard edges. Most of the stuff I see around me rarely has a perfect 90 degree edge. So sorry if I am being to hard or not echoing the praise, its just one mans comments.
I have to agree, the render does show case some nice light…but IMO, being some one who reads popbot I dont get this image really convaying the mood and feel of the books.
but on the tec side of things I think you could have done much much more with some detailed color, spec and bump maps. most of the surfaces end up a but flat in color detail and your relying to much on the lighting effects.
So in the end a huge render time like that for a single frame is niether productive or needed.
now the model is nice so props there, but the composition is also a bit lacking
I’m not sure if this will be helpful or not but here are some points for tweeks
1 - paint up some detailed maps color, spec, bump
2 - Try a differnet set or bring up the texture levels on the walls and stairs
3 - light as you would a set Key, fill, rim and if you are going to use FG or other light effects use them sparingly as a fill not as the main source.
well keep on posting your ideas ar good and the modeling is there for sure.
